The outrage is outside groups using the victim for their own agendas. No hate crime, no bias, without argument it was a foolish immature act to share the info he had, on his room mate. While you have a expectation of privacy in your home, the expectation lessons greatly when your living quaters is shared with someone else, and this is in one room. It was childish, and irresponsible and thats all it was. 30 days in jail is nonsense, a forced $10,000 contribution to a private entity , is equally nonsense. The young man has been punished enough already.

to take paid people to protect us and have them make a social point at the expense of my taxes.
let me clue you in. your life. if you don't want your life and have no respect for it you do not blame that on someone else and then have people use code words to agendize gay this and that.
These people are getting paid for this ? and they want to prison a person to get raped and shanked so there resume can be fruitious?

if the door to my room is lock and there is no other person in the room except for my guest, I have every right to expect privacy. if the parents of this jerk had a daughter in that room and she took her laptop into the bathroom with her and forgot to turn it off before she went into the shower and her roommate plastered it all over the internet, would they feel the same way about invasion of privacy? of course not, but because their son did it to a gay male roomate, it's ok.
