While calcium and Vitamin D may not prevent breast cancer, it is possible that these supplements will help prevent its spread to the bones, because those met cells are opportunistic and likely to go where the bones are weaker.

So ladies, remember that one study does not provide all the answers. Sometimes researchers, excited by their findings, lose sight of that. Each piece of research has to be fitted into the bigger picture.

The fact is that having strong bones is a really, really good idea whether you've had breast cancer or not. I believe all women should have their Vitamin D levels checked as some people absorb it much better than others. I'm one of those who has to take a WHOLE lot more than was in that study (it has to be prescribed) to get benefit from it. 400 units a day? I might as well not be taking it.

So don't hang everything on this one study. They are just starting to look at these factors. And while the article was right that double-blind studies are often considered the "gold standard," there's an important place for studies that are just the opposite -- epidemiological studies.

They all have their place, and each piece of research is just one small piece in a very large puzzle. Don't make decisions based on one piece of research any more than you would assume you can see the whole picture from one piece of a thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle.

Check the dose of vitamin D. The study as presented seems inconsistent with other evidence. Learn more here:
