No N-word in new Huckleberry Finn

There are 917 comments on the KNVA-TV Austin story from Jan 6, 2011, titled No N-word in new Huckleberry Finn. In it, KNVA-TV Austin reports that:

Mark Twain wrote that "the difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter." A new edition of "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "Tom Sawyer" will try to find out if that holds true by replacing the N-word with "slave" in an effort not to offend readers.

We are awash in political correctness. Why don't we go back and remake all of the classics, from Shakespeare and Charles Dickens, on up to Mark Twain, after all, I am sure that some one will be offended by some word that was placed in those great works.
How pathetic we have become.

I don't think that the AA are offended,, I think it is the white people with a guilt complex that want the offending language removed.

you have got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!! Why can't people read these classic works in the context of the time, era, and beliefs????? What a disgrace to wonderful writters and thinkers. We are the way we are because of these people!

DO NOT WORRY!
In 40 or 50 years, people will be whining that the "N" word was removed because of a "WHITEY COVER-UP" of history!!
Americans are too stupid to remember the real reason why things were done and falsely accuse people of bad things.
Recent example: People insulted Pres. Bill Clinton for "don't ask, Don't Tell", but in reality he tried very hard to get gays into the military, openly.
Too many congressmen/military officers objected and Pres. Clinton had to make a choice, get gays a chance to serve under don't ask/don't tell, or fight it and NEVER ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING ELSE DURING HIS PRESIDENCY (as some in congress THREATENED/PROMISED TO CAUSE HAPPEN TO PRES. CLINTON).
My point: instead of getting Pres. Clinton as an supporter of gays in the military, lady gaga and Kathy Griffin LIED TO THE ENTIRE WORLD AND MADE HIM OUT TO BE THE VILLAIN, which he did not deserve.(They forgot history after only 16 years, so how important of a cause was it REALLY FOR THESE TWO CELEBS?????)

This is wrong. Every other word is used in books, rap music is replete with offensive words but a great literary work that has stood the test of time is altered to meet someone's view of appropriateness?

Whoever did this should themselves be censored.

although I don't agree with changing classic literature in the name of political correctness, perhaps this will stop the book-burning-brigade.

They should also take out Huckleberry Finn and replace it with Bob Flynn....as long as we're revising 1800's literature to the 2011 PC Code!

As huckleberries are small, dark and rather insignificant, in the early part of the nineteenth century the word became a synonym for something humble or minor, or a tiny amount. An example from 1832:“He was within a huckleberry of being smothered to death”. Later on it came to mean somebody inconsequential.

Mark Twain borrowed some aspects of these ideas to name his famous character, Huckleberry Finn. His idea, as he told an interviewer in 1895, was to establish that he was a boy “of lower extraction or degree”(ie...poor white trash) than Tom Sawyer (rich white preppy).

No need to burn all the books(Farenheit 451)or for the Ministry of Truth to revise history(1984).A large percentage of the American Population barely knows what a book is.
