Thumbs-up: to the show of community support in Newland. Visitors to Avery County will notice a proliferation of "10 Commandments" on display in local businesses and homes - in response to the legal request from the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion to remove the 10 Commandments from the walls of Newland Town Hall.

I think the people of Newland are right to defend the fact that the Ten Commandments are, in fact, what the laws of this country are based on and it is a viable historical document. On a higher level, I think the people of Newland know where our freedom truly comes from, and that is God Himself. The people of Newland say He is welcome there. Perhaps if others don't agree, they should move somewhere else.

The point is that every private citizen on private property can post ANY religous symbol or scripture they want. OUR Constitution just says the government cannot. From a party that wants government out of everything it seems odd they want government being allowed to post religious symbols (only if they agree with which one it is). Majority does not rule in this situation. I am a Christian but understand the reason for this. What if the government posted portions of the Koran in public buildings and said no Christian symbols? Government has no business on either side. Religion is private to each person and the government should not be allowed to tell us which religion we should follow.
