What a joke and a waste of money... The guy running Rural Retreat is some dude fresh out of college who just "discovered" Route 11.

Just another reason why Rural Retreat's entire incorporation is a joke in my opinion.

Pretty damn sad that they couldn't hire someone from the area to do the job instead of bringing someone in from out of town whose family is not even moving up here with him. What a bunch of jackasses. Give back to the community and hire someone from the area.

It's because the local "powers that be" or dumb asses if you prefer, are so easily impressed with anyone from somewhere else blowing smoke up their ass they just lose it. Just look what happened when Lou Ann Earnhardt came to Marion with her name and a major nascar resort drawn on a piece of paper. Had all those idiots on the board jumping through hoops. All the fools had to do was get on the net, look her up, and read about her schemes in Statesville, NC and Flordia that went kerplunk! Common sense rules!

What exactly did she ask for? Not a damned thing. So why not get on board and support the idea? Too bad it didn't work out, but don't most ideas start with "a piece of paper"? If nobody would have supported her, you'd been griping about how nothing ever comes to the area. Give it a break!

Capt Crunch, Are you a "powers that be"? Sounds like I touched a nerve.

There are alot of things that must be managed in the beautiful town of Rural Retreat..just like all other towns. You have a wonderful community of farmers, homeowners, business people, doctors, nurses, lawyers, school teachers and all the hard working people and so many others...that make Rural Retreat,Va such a nice place to live, raise a family and grow a successful business. The Mayor is a leader and so therefore there are varies rules and codes he must have in place to keep our community vibrant and successful, yet growing strong together so there may be future opportunities for the generations behind us.Give the new Mayor a chance. We have the best Police staff and force from Wythe County...Give the new Mayor do respect also.

You're not nearly as smart as you think you are... this is the town manger we're talking about, not the mayor.

If Rural Retreat is paying an elected mayor, then why are they paying someone who's never before been to the town to serve as manager.

It's just another form of government waste in my opinion. The town's entire incorporation is a joke in my opinon. Considerably smaller and less successful than unincorporate Fort Chiswell... Just another excuse for more government and more politicians.

Somebody has to do the job of being Town Manager..alot times your outside people do much better jobs than people that have lived here, have their cliques and become complacent. To be better informed we need a post on this message board when and what time the Town meetings take place,so more area residents can become involved. It is WE THE PEOPLE who can make a difference in these Town Hall Meetings. Its called A VOTE.

Please, Please, Please do not confuse Rural Retreat's police officer with the Wythe County Sheriff's Dept.

Most of the deputies I know, and there are a lot as I work in the "system", say that he is the worst joke ever pulled in Wythe County. He does LESS than the last one and rarely ever charges anyone. I had 3 people tell me in the last month that they thought one of the deputies that live in RR was the police chief.
