Ralph E. Hise Jr. of Spruce Pine is running to represent the 47th District of the North Carolina State Senate, which includes Avery, Haywood, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell and Yancey counties.

One comment on this article is how can a Mayor of Spruce Pine represent Waynesville like Joe Sam Queen did for Haywood Medical Center? I think Mr. Hise would represent Newland, Crossnore, Banner Elk, Bakersville,Burnsville, Marion,Old Fort Marshall, Mars Hill, Hot Springs, Maggie Vally, Canton and all of the 47th District. Joe Sam Queen needs to go.

I am a Democrat and I have voted for Joe Sam Queen every time he has ever run. I thought he did a good job. I will NOT vote for Queen this time. He knows beyond a shadow of a doubt the information in his ads are bold face lies. The Town of Spruce Pine has too much money and businesses are critical because they will not spend money. The Town of Spruce Pine has a 100% fund balance. The annexation was requested by a citizen. I called the Town about water rates. Spruce Pine water rates are among the ten percent lowest in the State of North Carolina. I know of many people have called Queen to request he remove the lies but he has not. All he can say is this is what I have.

But please I urge you to earn my vote. How can I cast my ballot for you to such a high position, when currently as mayor you can't get Cheif Hollifield to put his grandchild in a car seat. We spoke about this via phone last week and I have yet to see a change. If managing staff as mayor is problematic how will you handle handle a greater responsibility. In summary earn my vote, fix this problem and don't be a "Pinhead".

I don't know much about Joe Sam Queen, unfortunately, but I am not a big fan of Ralph Hise. Honestly I think the "brains" behind Ralph is his mom, who has run unsuccessfully for office in the past and maintains a large presence in Mitchell County politics. Ralph just isn't that bright.

I agree the issue is for the Highway Patrol. But if one follows the "Chain of Command" then the Mayor would be the one to contact to speak to his Police Chief. Correct?
