Chinese are a diverse people and its good to see its young take an interest in preserving their indigenous languages and dialects. Its amazing that in 1955 when Mandarin was made the country's official language to facilitate communication, there were 56 ethnic groups speaking about 90 languages or dialects.

it's hard to make it...
we were not allowed to speak Shanghainese dialect in our high school... cuz teachers couldn't understand us... they are not local people... and the same in middle school...
now in uni... it's better... we can use it only when you talk to a local people from the same place as you are...

It makes sense to have a unifying language for ease of communication over such a vast country, but shouldn't mean that local dialects should have to suffer.

Good for them!
