Try the online expat magazine "gochengdu" or "chengduliving".

I am getting to relocate to Chengdu next week for 3 years for a major aerospace company. I just wondering if anyone know about the Egret Island complex or another one similar.
Hi David,

Egret Island is located in Southwest Chengdu, just outside of 2nd righ road. Some other popular complex among expats include Eurocity, Masters, China Garden, Waterfront etc...

Hi, I have just moved to chengdu from the UK to work on a project with Ikea for six months. Was very excited about coming over but never thought how home sick I was going to get. Just wondering what's the best place to meet up with some expats living near the Auchan/Ikea shopping mall? The locals are lovely, but would be nice to see some faces of people from back the UK. Is peters tex grill a good place? Or any more suggestions?

You should go to the Shamrock or the Bookworm. May expats for the UK hang out there. Good Luck in Chengdu

Hi, I am a bit surprised that no one has asked or mentioned any thing about air quality! Can anyone give me a sincere insight as I am about to relocate with to Chengdu with wife and two kids under 3yrs.

So my question is how do you manage /handle the bad air quality. And has any expat do a lung/chest X-ray to see if there was any damage post arrival in Chengdu ?

Hello. My name is Jonathan and I am a 27 year old American elementary school teacher. I was recently accepted into a 2 year teaching fellowship and the school I will be teaching at is in Chengdu. I am super excited about this oppurtunity but am very nervous about the changes and making such a big change at such a critical time in my life. I have a couple key questions to ask of you:
1. I heard that there is a lot of pollution. How does the air quality affect people's breathing? Is this really a major concern?
2. How is public transportation? Driving is absolutely out of the question.
3. Are there a lot of hospitals? How is the healthcare?
4. Are there any places to go swimming indoors? I am an avid swimmer and I would like to continue it as a hobby.

Thats all for now. Any help would be great!
Good cafes for reading

Hey guys I'll be here about a month for work, and one thing I need is a cafe with decent coffee where I can park my butt with a good book.

Went to check out The Bookworm this afternoon. Great ambience, comfy seats, but coffee was just abysmal. So, really hoping that Worm is not the only decent place around, or maybe I ordered the wrong thing.

Any other cafe suggestions? Really appreciate it \m/.
