How tragic for thousands of potential victims of AIDS to have this evil Pope misrepresent the facts about condoms. If the Pope is motivated by God, then his God is evil! How dare this evil Pope condemn these suffering people a hell on earth by his insidious religion! Has this Pope no shame?

Stop, in the name of God! Don't say evil things to our beloved Pope. The Bible says:

"Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?" (James 4:11-12).

As usual, the Pope is ignorant of the facts, or just wants to deny the truth in order to maintain control over his faithful

Condoms greatly reduce the chance of getting HIV or AIDS.

Your leader is mistaken, again...

Good for Pope Benedict. Its simple. Stop having sex with people of the same sex, stop doing drugs, and you will NEVER have to worry about AIDS. Class dismissed. But I guess certain people have no way of controlling their addictions or sexual impulses. Let me get out my violin.

Why doesn't he just say don't have sex, rather than lie?

"You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters aboard the Alitalia plane heading to Yaounde. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."...

Rebecca Hodes, head of policy, communication and research for Treatment Action Campaign in South Africa, said if the pope is serious about preventing HIV, he should focus on promoting wide access to condoms and spreading information on how to use them. "Instead, his opposition to condoms conveys that religious dogma is more important to him than the lives of Africans," said Hodes.

From the article, it you had bother to read it...

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the Pope has announced to the largely illiterate sub-Saharan hotbed of HIV that “the distribution of condoms aggravate the problem.”

The cruel history of religious authority, leading from the rear, continues - no matter what the subject of contention - witches, slavery, evolution, cosmology, democracy, and now public health.

The scenario plays out the same way every time: human reason discovers a truth and must fight for it against religious dogma. The battle ends with the religious position in tatters; yet the religious generals declare victory - the new paradigm is God's will!

It’s interesting to note that part of the Pope’s solution to HIV includes “friendship for those who suffer”. Despite this sanctimonious platitude, the Pope keeps his own suffering to a minimum. Like Mother Theresa before him, Benedict avails himself of the best that scientific medical advances can offer.

The Pope is a ignorant and close-minded fool, Religon is a blinding screen to reality,
It must be eliminated.
I rest my case
Once again the Pope has robbed these poor people of a solution to the aids problem, Benedict was a corwardly fish, he did nothing, the Popes rule in rome should be toppled for the crimes they have commited to the Human race,

Trowing comdoms at people who are already sexual promiscuous, and telling them this will greatly reduce your chance of getting AIDS, will only cause them to increase the number of their partners because they think they can't get AIDS if they use a condom. I don't think it will help.

If they don't listen to the Pope when he tells them not to have premarital sex or commit adultery, I am sure they won't listen to him when he says to avoid condoms.

Your last line said it all...you don't think. Telling people not to have sex is funny. Most Africans are not Christian, but I digress - sex is an instinct. It's the 'making love' mentality that is contemporary human gibberish.

I live in a Third World nation. Condoms were banned by the last mayor of Manila. It didn't stop people from having sex. It did increase the number of STD, HPV and pregnancy cases. The Roman Catholic Church saw to it that abortion was made illegal here. Now, we see about a dozen women die each month from illegal abortions. Why do they do it? The average Filipino exists on less than a dollar a day. The average family has six children. I emply three staff at our home - our family driver has seven, all under 16. He makes about $300 a month, which is about 50% more than he would be paid by a Filipino family. I give him condoms with every pay envelope. He sells them to the street walkers near his home. Our maid had nine children - she is paid slightly less than the driver and about double what she would make working for a local family. Our nanny has eight children and finally had her tunes tied after a botched Ceasarian birth of what would have been number 10.

Condoms aren't the answer to AIDS? Then please tell us what is. When we see highly educated men who take a vow of celibacy abuse children, he can't really expect that an illiterate in Africa will be more repsonsible. Sex limited to man and wife is an absurd concept to many on that continent.

I'm appalled at the arrogance and lack of sensitivity to the issue. How about selling some of the Vatican artwork to pay for reprocustive health care in the Thrid World. Imagine how many cervical cancer vaccinations could be given by selling a few pairs of those amazing red calf skin shoes on his feet.

I don't want to sound judgmental toward His Highness the Roman Pontiff, after all I don't why people act so surprised, it's in direct line with conservative Catholic dogma, and Benedict XVI is a conservative.
Personally I think it's crap of course, but after all I'm not a believer so I have no pangs to say so!

I think it is very sad that there is still a large number of indiviuals that believe that the bible is gods way. The bible was created by man... not god... Condoms saves lives, stops unwanted pregnancies, prevents the spread of STDs. Sex is a natural act. It doesn't matter w/ whom your having it w/ a man or woman. If the pope really wants to help save Africians he should incourage the use of condoms. Its obivious that they aren't refraining from sex... if he is a holy man as he says that he is he would be doing whatever was needed to help his followers. When people get sick... they may pray that they get better... but it's the doctor they see...
