Vatican decries reaction to pope's condom remarks

Critics of the Catholic Church's social teachings are trying to intimidate Pope Benedict XVI into silence, the Vatican charged Friday in responding to attacks on the pontiff's remarks about AIDS and condom use.

What good does any religion ever do? The Catholic church and Islam are the two worst religions in the world, they hate gays, Jews and women, they are vile, they have more in common with the nazis, then again the pope WAS a nazi, probably still is!

Fine, as part of that conversation we can state that the Pope is disingenuous, misinformed, is causing harm to people, is anti sex, is anti pleasure, is a homophobic bigot, and who ought to keep his sexually disordered pronouncements aimed only at Catholics (those few in the US who actually pay any attention to Ratslinger, at least.) Amen.
We can state that, no problem.

"Confidential Roman Catholic Church reports written over a period of seven years allege numerous cases of sexual abuse of nuns by priests and a failure by church leaders to discipline the clerics who were involved.

Five reports, written by senior members of women's religious orders and an American priest, contend that the abuse has been taking place in a number of countries, including the United States. But most examples cited were in Africa, where fear of contracting AIDS and the perception of nuns as safe sexual partners appear to have contributed to the problem.

The reports say some priests have demanded sex from nuns under their charge in return for favors. In some instances priests are said to have impregnated nuns and then forced them to have abortions.

So, not even your priests are able to follow your doctrine but you pretend to ram it through everybody else throats? Hypocritical? I think so.

And, I wonder, what would we find if we go with a comb into Ratzi's life. Would we find a son or daughter? Maybe a long lost boyfriend? You know, it would not be the first time with Popes.

About the Tenth Archbishop of Santa Fe Most Rev. Robert Fortune Sanchez: Besides having covered up a large number of pedophile cases, the former Archbishop was a very busy man:

"It is no wonder the Archdiocese fought so hard to keep the testimony secret. In its glaring spotlight Sanchez was revealed as a man too busy with his own sexual acting out to deal with the sins of his priests. He admitted that his own sexual activity with 11 women, all in their 20s, over the span of 18 years increased after he became archbishop."

Vatican spent 500 million to settle the lawsuits..(google it..dont be lazy)

If only they could make memory erasers, like in Men In Black, or The Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. There are some memories too painful, that they should be erased.

God Bless this woman and the boyz. Abusers who feel the need to demoralize, taunt, & overpower children in the name of GOD..should get the worst kind of pain ever..

..jail!

15 Years ago, plus I would not count this as a credable news site. I am barely giving you credit for the NY Times. They have an agenda against Relgion anyway.

Something more recent please, those are all old news and the abuses most likely occurred years before that.

Plus you still do not get it. Actions of a few still do not define an organization. You keep drinking the Kool Aid and will not think for yourself. Sad world you live in.

Actually, YOU are the one that does not get it.

The point in this particular thread *is not* the abuses themselves but the irresponsible death policy promoted by your church: condoms do not work and only abstinence and monogamy do.

The examples of abuse of women, men and children that I have posted here are not intended to illustrate -this particular time- the cesspool that it is your church. That we can leave it for another occasion.

Instead, they try to illustrate very simple points:
- people f**k no matter what.
- They always have and they always will.
- It is a basic function hardwired into the most primitive parts of our brains.
- Even when people know they shouldn't f**k most of them still do.

Your original post in this thread was the following:
The Hero wrote:
The problem with so called "United Nations social leaders" is they consider the people are just animals. They just assume we cannot control ourselfs or actions. The Pope and the Catholic Church understand people have free will and self control. They look at everyone and see a human being with the power of choice, not animals who cannot control thier actions.

Education is far more powerful then a piece of rubber.<quoted text>
As you can see from my previous posts, even your priests f**k. I am sure that Ratzi has f***ed too. Your cardinals, bishops and archbishops have also f***ed. Nothing wrong with that (hypocritical yes but not wrong).

It does not have anything to do with education, social background, occupation, etc. People simply f**k.

Asking people to stay "pure" and celibate until they get married *does not* work. People like to f**k.

Asking people not to have sex *does not* work. People like to f**k.

Asking people not to f**k outside their marriage *does not* work. People like to f**k.

Asking people to exercise self-control *does not* work. People like to f**k.

It is very noble to aspire to a perfect and ideal behavior of monogamy and self-control. But it is just that: a very noble and *ideal* goal. In **reality**, something that apparently you and your church are having difficulty to grasp, people like to f**k.

So, we have two options:

A) We tell people, your *only* option to avoid unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases is not to have sex until you get married and then to have sex only with your partner. That is abstinence and monogamy.

B) We tell people, it is best not to have sex until you get married and then to stay faithful to your partner.*But*, if for whatever circumstances you are having sex either before getting married or outside marriage then, please be *responsible* and do the right thing: wear a condom for the very least.

And yes, condoms do not always work. However, even if they work 80 or 90% of the time it is a better option than to offer an alternative which people will not follow 80 or 90% of the time.

Now, do you get it?

The US government imported and employed nazis that were far more dangerous than a 14 year old boy on an anti-aircraft gun.

I do not have issues like you. I am at peace with myself and my world. I trust in the human condition and when they fail, they pay the price for thier actions.

Is it always fair no, but it is the way it should be. Give people the information and let them make thier decision.

You on the other hand believe people are equal to animals and cannot control themselves. They must be told what to do and given no other option.

Freedom is a hard concept for you, isn't it?

I don't believe people are like animals but it is absurd and irresponsible to deny what one can see around us every single day. How many teens get pregnant on a given year? Even your abstinence programs for teens are a failure. Even your priests, who should be experts in self-control and abstinence, cannot keep their d*cks in their pants.

It is very rich of you to say that I am the one telling people what to do and not given them other option. Isn't your religion the one saying that the *only* option they have is abstinence? Isn't your religion the one transmitting false information to get people away from other options? Isn't your religion the one denying the possibility of people controlling how many children they can have?

You people are despicable. It is not wonder that your cult is becoming irrelevant every single day that goes by.

One thing that stands out is that the Pope talks of morality all the time, when he is living in a glass house that also houses some of the pedophile priests and bishops. Morality, like charity, begins at home.

Abstinence and fidelity are the best guarantees for preventing STD's, and condoms are also responsible for making a dent in the same diseases.

The RCC's real objection to condoms is that they are also a method of birth control, which the Pope opposes. In an ideal world, all spouses would be faithful and married couples could take care of an infinite number of children.
Condoms can protect someone who has an unfaithful spouse, and like all birth control measures can help people manage the sizes of their families.
There is NO virtue in being a sitting duck, or in morality that does not also emphasize common sense.

You just do not like free speech or free will. Certainly you have no self control. Then you project your personal problems on good organizations who have opinions and solid base to speak from.

A course in personal responsibility would be something you should look into. I would recommend a class in free will after that. Finally a vacation. Rome is a nice place a lot of history there. Did you know the Vatican is considered like a country and has Ambassadors in other countrys and the UN. Now that is a relevant religion if I have ever heard of one. How many other religious organization can say that?
