The ignorance of the RCC hierarchy is astonishing, but this latest episode of the Church's irrationality will ultimately force the Church towards liberalization on many issues...at least in the developed world. Maybe a schism in the US if the next Pope can't be a bit more connected to reality.

The problem with so called "United Nations social leaders" is they consider the people are just animals. They just assume we cannot control ourselfs or actions. The Pope and the Catholic Church understand people have free will and self control. They look at everyone and see a human being with the power of choice, not animals who cannot control thier actions.

Education is far more powerful then a piece of rubber.

Now it's abstinence AND monogamy. What a bunch of hypocrites just trying to hold onto their piece of the pie. Talk is cheap, if the Vatican was really interested in peoples well being they would be investing in any and all ways to end the AIDS scourage. Abstinence and Monagamy are great in a perfect world but this aint it. I'm glad the Vatican has their lace panties in a bunch over the worlds laughter at their pathetic attempt to remain relevant.

Education may trump rubber, but still lots of educated people in educated countries getting AIDS so my guess is human nature and human urges trump both education and rubber.

The pope may decree as he see's fit and humans can decide if they chose to follow his guide. What's so hard about that?

Fine, as part of that conversation we can state that the Pope is disingenuous, misinformed, is causing harm to people, is anti sex, is anti pleasure, is a homophobic bigot, and who ought to keep his sexually disordered pronouncements aimed only at Catholics (those few in the US who actually pay any attention to Ratslinger, at least.) Amen.

True, we know that condoms are very effective in preventing HIV.

If you are educated in their use, use them correctly and they are readily available they will dramatically lower HIV amongst even high risk groups. Just look at the US gay community and you will see why the pope is completely wrong.

Fifty-three percent of new HIV infections occurred among men who have sex with men (MSM) in 2006

From 2001 2006, men who have sex with men (MSM) across all racial and ethnic groups were the only transmission category with significant increases in HIV diagnoses

HIV incidence has been increasing steadily among gay and bisexual men since the early 1990s, consistent with increases in risk behavior, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and HIV diagnoses among MSM

Gay men comprise over half of the total number of total HIV/AIDS cases in the United States
More than 500,000 gay men of all colors have died in the United States.

Oh wait, that didn't work....

Sure. And that is probably why we see so many priests, bishops, cardinals, etc. f**king almost anything that moves, from kids to nuns to women. Their education seemed to have worked really well.

Yeah... so few cases that your church is almost broke from all the settlement payments it has made and is making.
As for hard stats, perhaps you should go ask Ratzinger about them. After all, wasn't him together with human sewers like Bernard Law and Mahoney the ones in charge of keeping everything from the public? I am sure they must have a very accurate account.

Ha ha. "A few isolated cases" equals several billion dollars in civil settlements.

And never mind the high number of cases. It's the RCC hierarchy's coverup for decades that's the real news. No other church or religion has a record remotely like that, and it points to something sexually sick in the Catholic Church. Not gay clergy, cos lots of churches have openly gay and quietly homosexual clergy. No, it's the sick attitudes towards women as less than, birth control, celibacy and authoritarianism. What a deranged institutional hierarchy. I don't know why the many decent, US Catholics haven't left; I guess they're content just to ignore the Vatican's increasingly bizarre dogmas.

And most likely what we know is just the tip of the iceberg. Can you imagine what is going on in South America, Africa, Philippines for example where RCC still has quite a large influence?

Wow you gave me your imagination. I will do the same.

I just wonder how may non-catholic priest are molesting women and children in Sweden, Houston TX, & Wellesly Hill, MA that we do not hear about?

Now that people can sue years after it happens, with no proof, I am sure the lawyers are making lots of money doing that.

"On 2009 February 3 the New York Times reported: "The Legionaries of Christ, an influential Roman Catholic religious order, have been shaken by new revelations that their founder, who died a year ago, had an affair with a woman and fathered a daughter just as he and his thriving conservative order were winning the acclaim of Pope John Paul II."[6] This has been confirmed by the Legion of Christ[7]. The Rev. Fr. Thomas V. Berg LC, Executive Director of the Westchester Institute for Ethics and the Human Person, has formally apologized to the victims of Fr. Maciel, "In shock, sorrow, and with a humbled spirit, I want to express my deepest sorrow for anyone who, in any way, has been hurt by the moral failings of Fr. Maciel." ["

"In St. Petersburg, Florida teacher Christy Lynn Martin was caught sexting an eighth grade student. Martin admitted to allegedly sexting nude pictures of herself to the teen student and received same back from him. Martin admitted sending the images to the boy and was arrested for transmitting pornographic images through an electronic device and transmitting harmful material to a minor." mensnewsdaily.com

I bet I can find more WOMEN teachers molesting the the last 5 years than you can find Priest. You are just brain washed by the liberal media.

I'm sure you'd like that so we get distracted from discussing the criminal practices of your church.

How many more people have to die and how many children have to starve before your church decides that to wear a rubber is ok both to avoid diseases and unwanted pregnancies?

Time to ignore this idiotic and cruel mentality from a very powerful organization.

In South Africa, 5.3 million people are infected with HIV and 25 percent of all pregnant women test positive for the virus.

William McMurry, a Louisville, Kentucky lawyer, filed suit against the Vatican[48] in June 2004 on behalf of three men alleging abuse as far back as 1928, accusing Church leaders of organizing a cover-up of cases of sexual abuse of children. In November, 2008, the United States Court of Appeals in Cincinnati denied the Vatican's claim of soverign immunity and allowed the case to proceed. The Vatican initially stated that it did not plan to appeal the ruling.

The fact is the Catholic Church has done more good for this world than any other religion. You take one issue and hold it up like a flag. I or anyone else can do that to ANY group of people. You put blinders on so you can keep your small world the way you like it. There are moral standards you wish to stay way from because of you limit world view. You do not have to hate others who like to follow those rules.

Those with open minds like to hate a lot, I have noticed.

That is just a cover up. You can find not suits of Priest in which the act occurred in recent history.
