Oh, I know how that is. Global Warming, gay marriage, affirmative action..........<quoted text>
Not just alcohol --- the "blue laws" applied to most businesses (except restaurants and drug stores.) It was a big deal in my town when the Hill's department store was the first to open on a Sunday.
The "blue laws" applied to everyone, even if you were an atheist or celebrated the Sabbath on another day. It was the Christian majority forcing their Sabbath on everyone else.
And, in the early 1950s (thanks to a Republican/Catholic coalition) the words "under God" were added to the Pledge, and school kids were forced to say it, even if they didn't believe in God.
Or society has become much more secular since then, but there are still many that try to force their beliefs on others.
But you do know of course that those blue laws were laws of the community and not of the federal, state or county. I too remember when stores started to open up on Sunday. It was at the beginning of the liberal change in our society when women started to become the breadwinner. Where I live, it was voted on district by district and not the entire city. In spite of the liberal movement, not all were on that bandwagon and a vote by the entire city may have met defeat.
The point is that it's the community that decides if they wish to be a religious; at least that's the way it was until liberals came along. Then if people of a certain community had their children and their religion in school, and one liberal snuck in, everything had to change for that one liberal, and to hell with the rest of the people. So much for Democracy.
I've grown to understand liberals though. The only joy a liberal gets in life is to make other people miserable just like they are.
If a liberal sees a man sitting on a park bench enjoying a cigarette, a liberal will not stand for that. He or she runs to government so they take that enjoyment away. If a liberal sees a happy man because of his financial success, the liberal runs to his government leaders and demands they take that mans money away. If a liberal sees that a man is happy being able to defend himself with his firearm, the liberals demand government take that happiness and security away from that man. If a liberal finds out that heirs to a wealthy man become instantly wealthy themselves, the liberal protests that the the money belongs more to government than the family.
And yes, liberals have done the same thing to religious people, because people celebrating their religion made them happy, and a liberal will not stand for others being happy.
