Same old politics in Illinois

It's disappointing, but no surprise, that Illinois' scandals haven't prompted the state's political bosses to clean up their act.
Gov. Pat Quinn likes to brag about how the state's hiring practices are so much better now than when disgraced Govs. Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan were in office. But Quinn's administration just created a make-work job for Patrick Ward, whose patron is House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Ward was put into a $70,000-a-year supervisory job, even though he has no one to supervise. Despite objections from the top civil service regulator, rules were waived so Ward could be hired without other candidates being considered.

Yes, Madigan passed along his resume, but no, Ward didn't get any special consideration. Right.

Madigan's spokesman told a reporter he needed to talk to Pat Ward. But it's Madigan and Quinn who should answer for this.
