Jan 18, 2008 Full story: Free Times 1,014

“Monday, December 28, Bev and I got up about 8:30, 9 o'clock. We had breakfast and then washed dishes from the night before.”

Looking back, it seemed that Beverly Jarosz had sensed that Death wanted her. A vague sense of impending danger first stirred in the summer of 1964, around the time the 16 year old received an anonymous present ... via Free Times

Henry, Do you mean Dubaniewicz? Which way was the boy running on 112, towards McCracken or towards Wallingford? Did anyone find his pants?

I KEEP SAYING FROM WHAT I REMEMBER,ITS BEEN AROUND TWENTY FIVE-THIRTY YEARS WHEN I HEARD ALL THIS FROM THESE PEOPLE.I THINK THE REASON THE POLICE CALLED HIM THEY HAD BEVERLY DOWN THERE.THE LAST I HEARD ABOUT HER SHE WAS TEACHING MUSIC AT ANDREWS SCHOOL FOR GIRLS IN WILLOUGHBY OHIO.YES IT HAS BEEN A WHILE, BUT IT STILL HAUNTS MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE AROUND THEN.I REALLY THINK ONE OF THESE DAYS SOME THING WILL COME OUT.I HAVE MET BARB A COUPLE TIMES SHE IS A VERY NICE PERSON.

I think you mean the police had Barb down their. And yes, other posts suggest Barb is teaching music at Andrews. According to additional accounts, the Klonowskiís actions surrounding Beverlyís murder seem very suspicious, especially concerning Paul. Barb might know more than she appears. Itís amazing all the little pieces of information people have about the murder.

And the mystery continues. It will soon be 44 years since this happened. Hopefully with all the new scientific breakthroughs we can finally resolve this once and for all. Does anyone know if her parents are still alive? It is sad to say but money and stature in the community can buy a lot of justice. Or should I say injustice!

Both her parents and her sister are still alive. As are the suspects. Her father still lives in the house.

I THINK ONE DAY WITH ALL THE INTREST THIS CASE STILL HAS,SOMETHING WILL COME OUT.I ALSO THINK THEY COULD SOLVE THIS NOW IF THEY REALLY TRIED.

I know your right on both counts. All it will take is for someone in the community to give up that one little piece of information they have been holding on to for the last 44 years. I think everyone knowsí that key is out their. I donít know how someone could live with that knowledge, let alone live with it for 44 years. It would be nice if the murderer is named before Beverlyís family pass-away. The mom and dad must be around 80. And the suspects are still alive. I would like to know how Beverlyís parents feel about the indifference of the community, the police, their neighbors and friends, to bring the murderer of their daughter to justice.

I swear to God I took piano lessons in 1970-1972 at the Fine Arts Center in Willoughby. My piano teacher was Barbara Klonowski. At that time I was 16 and HAD NO IDEA this was a girl so closely a part of the Beverly Jarosz murder. I mean this murder upset me for years & years and still does and here I sat next took and took lessons from Barbara never realizing the connection. Isn't that too weird? I wonder where Barbara is now. She was a really great piano teacher and was just so sweet and calm I can't imagine her involvement in any way. Plus...wouldn't she have been covered in blood had there been some kind of struggle - what would she do? She had to go home? Wouldn't her mother notice? I mean you aren't going to engage in murder, then calmly go home and have dinner? There was another guy the mentioned in the story - one who lives alone and is still in the Cleveland area. But still I can't figure out how an intelligent girl like Barbara would not somehow be more curious and bang on the door or start screaming to call attntion - like wouldn't you think something was wrong??? Why would you just cower and disappear? I would have been banging on the door, ringing the bell, yelling.....
any thoughts??? I truly had no idea my piano teacher was connected. Wow. Let's keep this dialogue who knows maybe we can come up with something. I have often wondered could it have been someone no one ever would have expected - a priest? A priest would have a familiarilty with the residences, etc. and would not arouse suspicion. It juwt had to be a man. No way a woman could inflict those injuries upon a strugling young girl.
Let's keep the dialouge going - maybe someday we can come up with something.

Gosh today is 12/28 - isn't it 44 yrs. ago today.???? Wow. I was in 4th grade-collinwood area. we were all terrified for months. I had to go home from school at lunch time and I would literally be frozen at the door as I entered my home - both parents worked and I was alone a lot. Oh the horror of it all. The total irony of the letter opener knife being used on her that she kept "just in case"....now why why why would this young girl have this fear? What did she know that scared her? Something. Didn't she volunteer at like a place where there were mental patients? Anyone out there know?

When I read in the article about Stankowitz, I too immediately thought about the connection between the name and the of the police department. I was thining though, say this Steve Stankowitz called - okay, Beverly writes down the name. If this person's voice was familiar and Stankowicz was a made-up name wouldn't she say that to the caller and not write the name down? She would have recognized the voice. However, this purported Stankowicz must be someone who lived very close because shortly after that call she was murdered. Wouldn't have to be someone close in the area who could get out of that house and run through the back yards to get back home. It was a convenient call. I still don't think there is any way a girl could possible attack and kill another with such brutality. I think it has to be a man. Someone very close. I think it's in her immediate circle. This person had evil and hatred for her. Went to strangle her and she fought back horrendously, then he had to go for the letter opener thing. All the time Barb was at the door.

I think it has to be a man also. Possibly someone that Beverly had rejected or not knowingly rejected his advances. It would almost have had to been someone that could watch her closely so as to monitor her every move. Was everyone closely questioned in the surrounding houses. Was there snow on the ground that day? Any footprints leaving the scene? It is hard to believe that this case still haunts me after 44 years. I still remember hearing it on the radio in the back kitchen of our Cleveland home with my cousin. We ran into the living room just terrified because we thought someone could be outside running around with a knife waiting to kill us. I often wonder if the mailman was questioned. He would be one to know everyone's movements in the neighborhood. Let's hope that this stirs up some interest. Maybe the parents just want resolution to this case also. Marilyn I believe that I was in contact with you about 8 years ago or so on the internet about this. Has anyone heard of any DNA evidence being available? They almost solved the Sam Sheppard case. I believe it was the window washer that did it and he just died not to long ago in prison. Let's keep going. Too many unanswered questions.

Marilyn, you probably did take piano lessons from Barb Klonowski at Andrews. Several posts suggest she worked their. I donít think she works their now, however. A lot of the posts Iíve read suggest a cover-up, initiated by the money and influence of Barbsí father and grandfather. I also have a problem with Barbís account of her behavior outside the Jarosz home. Beverly did volunteer at the local hospital, Marymount I guess, and studied Latin, as all Catholic high school students did, so a clerical, priestly, association could have formed. But I donít think a priest would send her gifts and I feel the anonymous gifts were from her killer. And you right about the damage done by the killer, certainly beyond the capability of a girl. And I also really wonder about Beverlyís sudden preoccupation with death. What was she afraid of, or who was she afraid of? Carol, her sister, could probably answer those questions for us. That caller, Stackowicz, could have disguised his voice to keep from being identified. And strands of Bevís bloody hair were found in the backyard bushes suggesting the way the killer exited. One of the suspects lived a couple houses away so it would have been an easy exit strategy for him to use. The mailman, now thatís a real possibility. I havenít heard that mentioned before. I believe the GH detectives working on the case have submitted some evidence for DNA testing. Good ideas looking for good answers.

Dawn....yes, we were in contact around 2000 and you sent me copies of the news articles. I have moved a couple times and need to look for them again. Nice to be in touch with you again. 4 yrs. ago apparently the police had new detectives interested in reopening the case. I'll look for the article - they were re-examining some of the guys close to Beverly, a neighbor and then a young man who was a little older that she had been dating at the time. Nothing substantial came from it. Also, apparently Beverly's parents have divorced but the father still lives in the house. Carol the sister and the family so much want to find out what happened. When you sent me those news articles that was the first time I saw Barb Klonowski's picture in the paper and could make the connection that she had been my piano teacher years ago. I never knew that. The mailman thing...never thought of that. It has to be someone from the close circle.

Another thing I find curious is that Beverly Jarosz is listed in Classmates for her graduating class at Marymount. Does anyone think that's kind of odd? No picture of her, just her Classmates page. I wonder if they want to see who "hits" on it, or if maybe her sister or someone paid for the membership just as a tribute? Maybe it's a way of fishing.

Just out of curiousity, did the Sunday Plain Dealer have any articles about it being 44 years since the murder? My dad still lives in Brecksville but didn't get the paper. I am the one in the family that still obsesses about this case. My cousins lived on Oakpark but don't really follow this as much as I do. Where did the Klonowskis live on Oakpark. I went to Nativity grade school with a Gary Klonowski. Could have been a relative. This is the first that I heard of the hair strands being found in the bushes. Just think of all the other evidence that is out there that we don't know about. Isn't there some law that says that evidence can be released to the public after so many years. Remember the case in Florida where the mother and daughters from Ohio were murdered and they published a handwritten note from the murderer on a billboard? A neighbor saw this and the killer was identified and brought to justice. I agree with everyone about just putting out the evidence to the public and maybe we could solve this and it wouldn't take 44 years. Of course the police are bound up with red tape that just about let's the killer get away. Nice to talk to you again Marilyn. I couldn't remember if I had sent those articles to you or not. We also have moved a few times. And I now suffer from chemo brain after being treated for breast cancer!!! Keep in touch and everyone have a Happy New Year!

I am not too familiar with the classmates page. Is that where they list everyone you went to school with year by year? It would be odd but on the other hand anything that keeps her memory alive is good. I couldn't imagine living in the same house where that occurred. I would be too scared!
