I graduated from the Elms last year,so I knew Emma Nahas, Ipray that they find her alive. I know the odds are great, but I know my friend is very strong. I also pray that more people would realize that you need a life jacket in all open waters, especially in Lake Erie.

I find it interesting how many people are so quick to point fingers and place blame (on the boat owner AND Emma) when in all likelihood this was probably an unfortunate accident. If you weren't personally there, and don't have any consoling words for the family, it's probably best to just shut the [email protected] up.

I agree, but there is something wrong about the story and how things turned out like how do you go back to shore and THEN realize she is missing. How do you not do a head count or realize she is missing as you start to leave?! I won't point fingers at individuals but something is not right about this situation. God bless that family and I hope someone has the balls to say what really happened!

@ CLE: Easy answer, it was a party boat. When stupid adolescents, alcohol, loud music, lots of people, and swimming in open water are combined, the outcome (which is tragic, nobody deserves to be stranded in Lake Erie) is not completely unfathomable.

op

The owner of the boat IS resposible. He is like the captain of a ship. It is his responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone on his boat. Accidents usually occur because of a chain of events strung together, and if only one of those events are prevented, then the accident does not occur. I was not on the boat and I do not know any of the people in this case, but, the boat owner should have made sure that no one was drinking underage, that intoxicated people were not jumping into the water, that people had life jacketes on in the water, etc. Catch my drift! My heart goes out to the girl's family. Hopefully, Lake Erie will give her up soon.

I apologize for the first two comments. I put them there in lieu for my daughter, Pauline. She did not post the comments and I was unaware people would be upset by them. Me and my family are praying for Emma's safe return. This was an unfortunate accident and right now the efforts should be on bringing Emma home safely, not pointing blame.

That's totally true. It would be totally impossible not to notice that Emma was not in the boat. It's unreal how beautiful she was, and very sweet. It doesn't add up. Alex Cucco needs to be charged with serving alcohol to a minor and whatever else they can charge him with. I pray she made it back to shore, as she was very athletic. At this point I would like to think that she is hiding and upset and will return shortly. It is possible to swim two miles in an hour. I just don't want to loose hope. She was too good to have this happen to her.

It is unacceptable that those that know what happened aren't talking! Shame on you, you know who you are! I hope you understand that karma has a way of finding you...I certianly hope that one day, your son or daughter doesn't go missing...cause these things happen to GOOD people, which I don't believe you (those that aren't talking) are...hope you never have to know how helpless a parent feels in this situation!!! To Emma's parents, my heart is breaking every day that passes and we don't know anything! I pray for you and your family everyday!

this is a very sad story. i personally know emma and this is a very terrible inccident! but it is not only the owner of the boat to blame...many of you will not like to hear this but...it is her fault to that this has happened. a 20 year old girl should not be bar hopping on west 6th street every night with these type of people. if she was more responsible and hanging around people her own age none of this would have happened. i do feel really bad for her but it is no one's fault but her own. and why the hell were her parents letting a 20 year old go bar hopping downtown...work at a strip club...and so on!!! if her family truly cared so much about this poor girl she would not have been in this situation!

See this is what people mean.nless you know what really happened dont make comments. They called 911 right away! Not when they got back to shore..

if they had not been drinking the most likely this wouldnt have happened and the reality of it is that she is not coming back so i dont see why people have to make such a big deal out of it and i know it is hard on here family and i hope they make it through this but that wont happen if they dont just let it go.

When you say "family" you must be referring to her mother, since Emma's choices seem to mimic hers. Emma was raised with a wonderful father (after her mother abandoned her) and would never have made these choices before reuniting with her mother. Emma was a very special girl who should have been in college and not with sleezy older men. The sun doesn't shine as brightly without her here.

The whole situation is absolutely awful. I feel bad for her friends and family. If I were her family I would be hounding the media and the police for answers. I don't understand why there isn't more of an investigation underway. It seems that the authorities do not really care what has happened. No charges have been filed!! At the very least someone should be charged with letting underage kids drink. It'll be really interesting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks, and possibly months. Something in the story does not add up, and I will not be surprised if it comes out that foul play is involved.

where did you hear her mother abandoned her, because that is not the case. I babysat Emma before her father took her and her mother would have never abandond her.

I know, and have known, Emms's Mom for about 25 years. The fact that you can write such horrifice things is unimaginably insulting to anyone who has the ability for empathy. Many people divorce with both parents loving their children more than life. You are obviously connected to her father (who my heart also aches for) but instead of using a forum to hope and/or grieve, you use it for personal attacks...I am SO glad I don't know you.

ps - Augie - before you comment, yes I know made a few spelling errors - you pissed me off and I was typing too fast.(you seem like the kind of person who gets a kick out of that sort of thing...) I also have to wonder...have you led a life of constant "salvation"?- have you EVER been 20 years old? Some day something horrific will happen in your life and I just hope that the people surrounding you have more sense and more empathy, both of which you apparently are not capable. Your comment makes you sound like you have the brain of a mentally impaired flea.
