Anyone please help me!! I need to find an older gentleman I imagine him to be in his late 70's to mid 80's give or take a few years. I believe his name is antonio. His last name I believe is something like mattuto or something that sounds similiar. Please keep in mind neither name may be correct because they are given to me by a WWII veteran who is 93 but the story should be unique enough that if someone knows this man they'll know who I'm talking about. He grew up in bari, puglia Italy during WWII. Terlizzi i believe but possibly Molfetta. He was a young teenager at the time and became very close with a unit of American GIs stationed in the area at the time 1944-45 possibly late 43 also. This unit looked after the boy and would pay him to cut their hair to help him make money for his family among other things to help him. He had 2 sisters one of whom was named Rosa I believe. His father also I believe died sometime during or shortly after and on his death bed his father took his wedding ring off his finger and gave it to one of the Americans begging him to protect his son and bring him to the us. The soldier has lived with the guilt of not having the money to bring him to the us after the war every day since and he still cherishes that ring. That soldier never attended the reunions of his unit so he wasn't there when the young man now grown walked into one of the few reunions they had to the surprise of all those veterans with his wife that he'd met since moving to the us. They were so happy to see as most of their eyes filled with tears. That was sometime in the 70's or 80's I believe and with most of the veterans now deceased (I've found 6 or the 450 names I've been through so far) accurate info has been hard to come by but at the time of the reunion the gentleman was living in akron, ohio and his wife was from Kentucky and he was workin in the construction field in some capacity to the best I can find out. It's very important I find him an with everyone's increasing age the sooner the better! If anyone knows this man who is a relative of his please contact me ASAP! My email is [email protected] or can be found under Hiner in the phone book in a small town called stillwater Oklahoma!! Anyone who can help even with possible last names please message me ASAP!!

For anyone to have a chance to do that you have to identify the military unit involved, down to the company level at least. Almost every unit in the ETO had kids as hangers on, especially units that were on occupation duty or served some function that kept them in the same place for an extended period of time.
