Kind of looks like a giant Halloween costume party in parts of Columbus with all the people wearing robes and hoods.
Except at Halloween most are happy, drunk, or both. These people are cunning thieves that wash only their feet and don't believe in the use of deodorant.

“Meh.”

Look at the headlines from the 50's, and look at the headlines from the last few weeks.
You are truly off kilter if you think that not being able to go out to your backyard without making sure the house is locked up is a better way to live. Home invasions were unheard of. You could leave your car unlocked and your garage door unopened. You could drive without worrying about being carjacked. Your children could walk to school, long distance, in safety.
You're an odd duck.
People forget how out of control crime has gotten. I mean, in 1950 the homicide rate was 4.6 per 100,000. For 2012 this had spiraled out of control to 4.8.

Huh. Gosh, it's almost as if the real crime rate has gone down when the rate is examined with the expanded rate of reporting linked to more developed forensic science and greater access to the legal system afforded to a wider range of the American people.

But that can't be! That would mean that the folks always harping on about the good old days have no actual working knowledge of he times or modern crime data. It can't be that these mental giants are basing their worldview around black and white television and the nebulous idea that things must have been better in the "good old days"?

The poster never said a word about homicide and truth be told, he/she is correct. We ALL spent HOURS outside without checking in and our parents never once worried. We just had to be home by the time the street lights came on. That's a far cry from today, and you know it.

So your argument is that because the poorly informed *feel* they were more safe then vs today that it was better back then, regardless of the actual rates and risks?

Well, it's a cute argument, with all the feelings. I'll give you that. And as long as nobody looks at any real data comparing life in 1950 to today it's a fairly compelling one as well. Hooray for uninformed opinions based on feelings which the barest research would refute!

you argument is best for gun control being unnecessary.

Assault weapons in 1950 were non-existant to civilians. You could purchase a war surplus bolt action rifle for $2.75 in 1950. No background check, and no paper work.

Today 2014 the United States total population has doubled from 1950.

Using your math......The United States has twice as many criminals in 2014 than 1950.

So while you liberals scream gun control.....we can scream how uninformed you are by using your posted figures.

With twice as many criminals on the streets, and twice the opportunity for homicides, the citizens should be prepared to protect themselves from evil.

Ban gun free zones.
