Whoops. Minyo should be Class of 1992, not Class of 1991. Typo.

The class of 93 had the best players. Leanne who could hit but couldn't play a lick of defense. Danette who could hit and play defense. Miranda who could hit and play defense, and Judi who was the setter. They were the only class to have Coach Ritter all 4 years of their high school career. All 4 of those girls could have went to college on a scholarship but only 3 of them did. So with that being said I think you should add Danette, Miranda, and Judi to the list!

I agree, "In my opinion." I couldn't remember all of their names and could only list 10 people in the poll so I wanted to spread it out as much as possible. I'm too young to remember them playing but I know they were all a great group of girls. I wanted to include Lana and Lela Pixley from the Class of 1994, too. Stacy Mayberry ('95) was pretty good, too, from what I was told. Suzanne Dinkens ('97), Brandy Lea ('98), Tosha Slaughter ('98), all standout players. I also wanted to include Carlye Burchett ('99). She was a great setter and all-around consistent player. Maresia Sneed ('00) was a good defensive player. Amber Buehler got a volleyball scholarship to Texas Christian University, and Erika Campbell was a tough middle blocker. Vicky and Carrie Pixley both were great players who could really smack the you-know-what out of the ball and had some killer serves. Kacy Burchett and Selena Slaughter from the Class of 2003 were both good players, too, and really good setters. Melissa Fish from my class was a good hitter, and Cindy Hovis (now the volleyball coach) was a good defensive specialist and had a 100% serving accuracy our senior year. The girls from 2006-2007 had a 20-7 record their freshman/sophomore year while playing junior varsity. I believe Carrie Pixley and Sheila Fish received All-Regional honors, too. Most of the girls on the list always received Woodland All-Tournament Team, All-District and All-Conference honors. Aside from the early 1990s, I believe some of the best records that have been posted were during the 2000-2001 season (19-9-1) and the current 2009-2010 season (20-10). Lesta Newberry and Angela Dickinson are both great players if they would just get their heads out of their butts and learn to play together as a team! They could go far next season if they really want it.

Missy Stotts was a really good VB player....a lot older than the girls you are talking about but went to college on a scholarship plus played varsity all 4 years & received all awards 9-12. I believe she made MVP at Mineral Area also.

Yes, Missy, I forgot about her. She was very good. She coached the USVBA team that most of the girls played on we are talking about.

Yeah, that's why I said "recently," but if we were to go back that far, I would have included my mommy in the list :) from what I was told, she was pretty good, too, as was my grandma Sharon Pape-Lemons-Sturgeon-Holmes and her best friends Deanna Humphreys and Joan VanGennip, all way back from the Class of 1956. Of the girls I listed in the poll, I think Leanne is the only one who has a plaque dedicated to her at the school. It's in Cindy's office with her number (8) and all of her awards during volleyball which include All-District, All-Conference, All-Regional, All-State and from her days playing college volleyball. I'm too young to remember seeing her play but she used to play on a team up at the Osage volleyball league that I play on, and we all know how far she took Leopold when she coached there.

Yes Leanne was a great player, but so was the rest of the girls who played that graduated in 1993! They also made All-district, All-conference, etc... But I am curious as to why she was the only one to have a plaque dedicated to her!! after all they was a TEAM!! Just Curious

Because she is the only one who played Division 1 college ball where the other girls played jr. college ball. Leanne was not the best all around player to come out of Zalma. All she could do was hit. She was lame playing defense. She never played defense until her Sr. year. Ritter always put one of the Pixley twins in the back row for her. Leanne by far was the most overrated player to come out of Zalma High School. Yes, she helped the team but with out the team she would have been nothing. No one would have given her a 2nd look.

I would like to say I agree with we were a team, it didn't matter to us who got the kill, dig, block,or serve as long as we played. As they say love of the game.I would like to thank In my opinion for their remarks about the three Danette, Miranda, and Judi we all three felt like we were a part of a great team and we were not out for any individual greatness. I can say that because I am one of three, we were the best of friends. It doesn't matter who was the best, we won and lost together. We tried to do our best at all times, I think we did pretty well under the circumstances.

I think she was overshadowed by her classmate Sheila Fish and Chelsea Snider. Those two girls made one heck of a team. I think after watching this year's team we should add Lesta Newberry to the list. S

I remember Christina Simmers, class of 98. She could play defense, spike, great hard serve, put the volleyball anywhere she wanted. Her class had several really good players. Heather Riney, comes to mind also.
Zalma has had a lot of really good players, basketball and volleyball!
