Sigh. This is pretty typical for someone in your position. I guess you just have to assume everyone is stupid since you don't understand any of the points they are making.<quoted text>
The flood gates? Oh dear. You claim to know a lot about science but fail to realize that all that water rising along the Mississippi River in Louisiana came from up North because of the snow melting.
The spillways are flood-control structures, built in part by the federal government. These structures are doing what they are supposed to be doing -- preventing major flooding in the most populated areas of Louisiana, New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Any damage that may be done to areas in the Morganza Spillway will not be a surprise. Anyone building in this area knew the risk of flooding and carries expensive flood insurance for this purpose. The dollar amount in damage will be minimal.
Flooding occurs in many areas of our country, but no place has structures like ours which prevents the maximum amount of damage.
Jeez, why are you such a prick?
Yes, Timmy, the water is coming from upstream. That's what water does. And yes, they opened the gates to "save" New Orleans.
Of course, if we hadn't SPENT a ton of money "saving" New Orleans in the last few years, then we wouldn't need to SPEND more money to "keep saving" New Orleans.
Maybe reconsider building a city BELOW sea level. Just a thought. Then you wouldn't need the FEDERALLY FUNDED protections you are bragging about in the first place, would ya?
But ALL of this completely MISSES THE POINT.
2 BILLIONS DOLLARS worth of damage. That's going to create a budget problem. And if the state wants to make that budget problem worse by thumbing their nose at science - I say we let them.
And as for me being a jerk, well, I'm not the one so swollen with "suthurn pride" that I'm defending an educational system which is allowing creationism in the school. Am i?
