The flood gates? Oh dear. You claim to know a lot about science but fail to realize that all that water rising along the Mississippi River in Louisiana came from up North because of the snow melting.
The spillways are flood-control structures, built in part by the federal government. These structures are doing what they are supposed to be doing -- preventing major flooding in the most populated areas of Louisiana, New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Any damage that may be done to areas in the Morganza Spillway will not be a surprise. Anyone building in this area knew the risk of flooding and carries expensive flood insurance for this purpose. The dollar amount in damage will be minimal.
Flooding occurs in many areas of our country, but no place has structures like ours which prevents the maximum amount of damage.
Jeez, why are you such a prick?
Sigh. This is pretty typical for someone in your position. I guess you just have to assume everyone is stupid since you don't understand any of the points they are making.

Yes, Timmy, the water is coming from upstream. That's what water does. And yes, they opened the gates to "save" New Orleans.

Of course, if we hadn't SPENT a ton of money "saving" New Orleans in the last few years, then we wouldn't need to SPEND more money to "keep saving" New Orleans.

Maybe reconsider building a city BELOW sea level. Just a thought. Then you wouldn't need the FEDERALLY FUNDED protections you are bragging about in the first place, would ya?

But ALL of this completely MISSES THE POINT.

2 BILLIONS DOLLARS worth of damage. That's going to create a budget problem. And if the state wants to make that budget problem worse by thumbing their nose at science - I say we let them.

And as for me being a jerk, well, I'm not the one so swollen with "suthurn pride" that I'm defending an educational system which is allowing creationism in the school. Am i?

I feel attacked by you and nuggin because I live in Louisiana. Somehow, you lump me in with all the other creationist dummies.
This may be news to you, given how much of a backwater your state is, but over the last 100 years or so there have been great advances in vehicular transportation.

You no longer have to just carry all your stuff on your back and walk away from your state. In fact, you could move out of your state in as little as a few hours.

You choose to stay. You get lumped in with the rest.

Oh, I understand that very well. That's why I'm part of this fight.
Odd then, that you thought it was a personal attack upon you.

Defending? By attempting to repeal the stupid law set up by fundie idiots? If he stays in Louisiana with the fundies despite being at odds with them, he should be lumped in with them? So that means by staying in Cali with all the anti-gay bigots you should be lumped in with them even though you are at odds with their position?

Just sayin'.

It's a good point. However, since I'm flaming him and not the other way around, I'm gonna stick to my guns.

Bah, you guys don't pay me to play nice. You pay me to be the pitbull.

I leave the nice reasoned arguments to the people with PhDs.

I am. But if someone get's a PhD in screenwriting, there's seriously something wrong with them.

Maybe the creotards could hire them to dream up some new material for them.

Oh, believe me, I usually the first one pulling his hair out in the theater with my screenwriting brethren dip into creo-tard-esque bs.

"You know how you only you 10% of your brain" drives my nuts!
