I've known the owner of this shop and his family since they started this business. They are extremely professional in the way they conduct their business. I know for a fact they have extremely competent legal council and would not do ANYTHING to compromise their business or their reputation. In fact, they have one of the best reputations in the industry, you don't get that in this business very easily. Seems to me this situation is probably nothing more than a disgruntled employee trying to hurt his former employer, I've seen this too many times. Let's not pass judgement until all the facts are in. And shame on News 9 for even mentioning the term "chop shop" in this situation, it's just another example of the media trying to crucify someone so they can get their story. That terms implies that they are involved in some sort of illegal activity not even associated with the accusations being investigated...lousy journalism, they owe them a public apology in my opinion.

Well, they probably wont get it. If they would have reported it as a simple investigation no one would have cared. They used the keyword Chop shop to get attention for the story.

They MIGHT be SEARCHING for illegal activity. What a crock. Every car builder knows that if you need to replace a door on a 60's mustang, that the VIN plate needs to be removed and put on the new door. And if every part on the car is rusted and needs to be replaced (which can happen to these 40+ year old cars), what law says you have to have even 1% of the original car attached to that VIN?

The media and OSBI looking for attention. To protect and serve..... who? Themselves.

This brings back some fond memories of the Yukon cops...Long ago I had a ligitimate foreign car leasing company in Yukon...we were bringing cars fro S Africa etc...called grey market cars...Mercedes, Jags, etc...they would be DOT'd and EPA'd in Houston.

I walked out one day and there were cops everywhere, including FBI, OSBI and I think the dog catcher, on, in and around the cars....some over zealous cop was trying to make a name for himself at my expense and they played the tough guy game....the two FBI agents grilled me???

I'm not easily intimidated and I laughed at them....called there bluff and told them where thay could look at the titles, in Tulsa....especially when they found out the a former state Senator and lawyr=er had the titles....they left never to be heard of again but for an hour I was a criminal.....Cops are cops are cops

They may be owed an apology for "Chop Shop" but thats about all they are owed. The owner, Jason Engel, pled guilty on August 6th, recieved a three year deferred sentence, and has to fix all of the bum cars/titles. Then, I'm thinking he will get to experience the civil side of the court house when all the rich guys who've been ripped off start lining up to sue him. But yeah Tony, he seems like a stand up felon...er...guy...stand up guy. Here is the link to his court dealings....

Humm...sounds like those "zealous cops" knew what they were doing after all, eh? A good example of everyone assuming this or that without knowing all the facts...

Have known this guy since H.S. He has always been that guy that surronded himself with bad people and wanted to be a bad guy too, because he thought it was/made him cool. Was one of those guys that stuff would always happen to that was "never his fault" and parents that had a little money so they could make things just go away so that he could stay out of trouble. He is a POS that would lie and steal to his own family if he could benefit from it or thought he could get away with it. He will never change and anything he touches or has dealings with should be questioned about its ethics/integrity because he has none.

To all those bashers..........he (Jason) doing just fine and the OSBI/OHP/Canadian County DA's office sure have backpeddled. They did over react and I think they are going to have their ass in a crack for doing so.

Well, let me see...Engel pled guilty to a felony for a 3 year deferred deal. What he was doing (removing VIN plates and putting them on new cars and passing them off as originals) is highly illegal. So I really don't see how law enforcement did anything wrong. That's their job. Looks to me like the only ass in a crack is Engels. And if I had paid $175K for a "genuine" restored fake, I'd sue faster than you could say Eleanor!

If one were to take the time to read his ads, brochure and press releases it's apparent "Classic Recreations" is producing a Shelby "Approved and licensed" vehicle. No where can I find where he claims to be selling "original 1967 Shelby GT500's." As for the assumption that the price proves he's trying to pass a fastback off as a origional Shelby, well break assume into three parts. As for the "guilty" plea-----again take the time to read the documents and the law.
