And to Chief Linn who purchased the uniforms, to Chief Ward who wanted to but was denied and to the current City Manager for approving the purchase by Chief Linn. I've heard this new chief is pretty good. I'm very happy for the dept. & the city. Hopefully, this recruitment will pull the city together. It's been long time needed!
Ward wanted to, Koester wanted and asked for cars AND raises. When the council ordered FLAT budgets, that meant NO raises, cars, or anything else. Even the current and her cronies ordered a flat budget and The city manager was ordered to return the budget to the flat category every year Kester and Ward was there.(read council minutes) They were allowed AND DID buy some used cars from Federal surplus from their flat budget funds, but that meant doing without other stuff. If you're going to beat everyone up, know the facts first. When hands are tied, you don't get the money, you can't buy new stuff. BTW, the officers wanted those ugly polo shirts and didn't want to change. It was the newest city manager who told Linn to change the uniforms. Give him the credit which is due him. Also, The new chief IS a nice guy. If the council gives him what he needs to do his job, he'll do fine. We wish him well!

It's about time this City has hired a Chief who actually addresses the needs of the department. The past chief only cared about himself and his image with the public. The needs of the department were never considered. The officers even look more professional with their new uniforms! I have heard that they are even getting a few cars this year. The past chief didn't purchase one vehicle during his tenure. This new Chief seems to be what this City has needed. Congrats to the people of Piedmont!
The "past chief" bought 3 new cars when he first came, but was not allowed any more new ones. Certain council members wanted to replace a car each year, but when he asked for a new car each year, they would say, There's no money in the Capital Improvement Fund" so he wouldn't get cars. He got a breath machine for drunk drivers when he first came, and several car video units for the cars until money was frozen. I'm not taking up for the old fart, but he's not all to blame. He did try whether you believe that or not.

The above is mostly an outright lie. All cars were purchased under Ward. None from Koester and he never asked for pay raises. As far as the uniforms go I will say that the officers have all said good things about them so I have a hard time believing that koester kept the polos because the officers liked them. Fact of the matter is that Koester didn't want to spend money on te uniforms. He only allowed the officers to have 2 uniforms user his rule and now they have 5. Say what you want and try to defend him, Koester leaving pushed this department forward in a HUGE way.

You must have not been working when Koester bought the cars shortly after he was hired. Ward bought some one good, mostly high mileage.
What is "mostly" an outright lie? Obviously, some is true. You may not be lying, you just don't know what you're saying. Check your facts at City Hall. The purchase orders will prove who bought what. You don't have a clue, but you like to spread rumors or believe what yor hear from others who don't know what they're talking about. I'm out of here, and refuse to argue how good or bad someone is or was. Let the past go. Support your new boss and don't dwell on the past if you can.

All I was trying to say is that while the new chief may be great...credit for the new uniforms goes to Chief Linn.

How can you know pay raises weren't asked for? You weren't in the budget meetings and city manager's office when he pleaded for raises and couldn't get them because of frozen funds! He DID get step raises the last year when before, even those were frozen. He promoted two officers when he could get the city manager to approve , and that, I understand was a delicate matter. The uniforms were just like the other problems-money! There wasn't a time he didn't provide uniforms when they asked for them. He just couldn't buy 5 at once!

Good grief! He gave them all a limit of 2 sets of uniforms per year! That is a fact! And in the budget meetings I attended, he did not ask (let alone plead) for anything. He always stated that he wanted to give money back because it "looked better." He put in 2 (?) vehicles in the Capital Improvement Budget but when asked abt the status...he said he didn't know if they would be approved & left it at that.

Oh...& his "promotions." One he promoted to the Sgt-Det. position but only gave him the title of Det., because (as he TOLD ME HIMSELF), didn't think he deserved it & wanted to save some money. But he had all the duties & responsibilities. Hmmmm...really sounds like he was in it for the guys doesn't it.

All of you including whoever is taking up for the old fart is full of it. Who cares? None of you can prove any of this except for what was bought or unless you come forward, sit down with witnesses and hash it out. And what for? It's
old crap-get over it and move forward! He's gone, some are glad and some aren't-so what! No one is going to change their opinions, so why bother?

Well, maybe he was told he wasn't going to get the cars, so what is wrong about telling the troops the truth? Doesn't mean he didn't try. You just don't understand because you weren't there. Flat budgets mean just that! No one gets what they ask for. Maybe the CM told him what was told to the CM by the council. You say you were at meetings. You obviously weren't privy to everything, or you'd know what you are saying is wrong. Stay at home and gripe. He wasn't there when you quit!

You are toooo funny. That last sentence wasn't even pertinent to the conversation. Were you just trying to let me know that you know who I am? That's ok big boy, I know who you are too...no matter how many fake names you use. Same style, same self-righteous & pompous attitude. Go ahead...have your last word, I'm done.

Who did he promote? All I heard was that he promoted his second in command to higher pay grade to spite the other officers. Giving someone a different title when they are already second in charge isn't a promotion. And I know someone who was at those budget meetings and I know for a fact that no pay raises were asked for. He asked about the pay freeze being lifted but did not request that his officers be paid more. Funny how things have changed drastically in one year since he has been gone. You are obviously clueless as to what little he did. Just go ask an officer. They will tell you what little he did.

Read the threads about the police officer arresting the little boy. If you pissed yourselves laughing at this stuff, you'll shit in your britches about the dumbass cop giving a 3 year old a ticket for urinating in the yard!

You couldn't make up shit like this if you tried. Only in Piedmont Oklahoma!

Why are the new police SUVs bearing different decals than the rest of the fleet??? If a new paint scheme is the new route then why haven't the other cars been changed to match the new ones? How are we as citizens supposed to know who the real police are when it seems like all a person has to do is throw the word police on a car!!!?? I have seen grey, blue, black and purple schemes! Does it really cost that much to make police cars uniform? The chief or the city council need to get their heads out of their butts! The fire department is uniform. The sheriff department is uniform. Yukon police is uniform. Starting to see the picture here?

Wilson, I agree with you. The tail is wagging the dog at the Police Department. This chief is doing nothing except drawing a 70K yearly paycheck. It's not working out with him. Most of us here in town don't even know who he is or see him to find out.
