you guys are so deep into your atheism that you don't even realize you have been indoctrinated into a cult.
Still no answer from you on a very basic question:

Saved from WHAT.

Sad for you-- to be so unable to answer a simple question.

You are saying people are dodging questions?
Really? You still have provided NO answer as to why someone should follow the Bible in the first place.

Years and years.
I went from a Genuine Christian™ through moderate- then liberal- then deist-christian then just a deist then years of back-and-forth.
I don't have a word for that last phase: some days I kinda did believe in a god "out there somewhere--watching" and other days I thought it all nonsensical.
I finally settled on "it's all nonsense".
:)
Took me years, though.
I did something very similar, when you are indoctrinated at a young age it takes a long time to sort out the truth from the untruth.

Yes-- it takes a great deal of re-evaluating some basic assumptions.

For starters? You must recognize that you **have** basic assumptions in place!

That one is likely the hardest of all to grasp.

I have noticed that your average True Believer™ is utterly clueless about that.

You can easily tell they are, as they cannot grasp a simple discussion on the subject.

It is literally beyond their ability to think about.

Kinda sad.

Do you have some friends/family that are more accepting than others about Atheism?

I live in a large area that has atheist meetings/book clubs, etc. so get to interact with like-minded people for the majority of the time.

However,a lot of my family lives in rural small town America. When we go back to visit them we have to edit ourselves, so as not to offend.

Its just something I have gotten use to doing over the years but I still its a shame that I cant fully be myself around those that I am most closely related too.

My best friends are atheists. Alas, none in my family are openly atheists. But my closest family is so liberal in their theology, that it just isn't an issue (none believe in hell theology, for example, and all believe that **behavior** is more important than faith, thus people who **act** as good folk, are better folk than the most avid of the "faithful", who are seen as rather poor examples of how to live).

There is a pretty good atheist group here in Tulsa, but after a scandal a number of years back, I haven't been much involved.

I really should, though-- social species means that we should be social.

I used to "edit myself" as well. I got over it and so did the people I used to edit myself around. Very rarely do I get into 'arguments' anymore. I simply started to point out that I have every right to air my opinions on maters from my perspective as they do from theirs.

There are a couple of people that I had fun putting in their place... a sister-in-law in particular. I can't remember what I said to set her off (we were at her house for a cook-out and I was a bit tipsy at the time) but she said something along the lines of "the bible is my guide!" in a really uppity and snotty sort of way. So I asked her if she had ever actually read the entire book she claims to live her life by... reminding her that lying was one of the bug 10 no-nos mentioned in that book. She had nothing to say. It was priceless!

She was quite pissed at me for a while for bringing her hypocrisy to light... but she got over it, is way less judgmental now, and we get along just fine.

It is complete freedom not to have to account to someone for your actions or your life. That is why the Bible says marriage is tribulation in the flesh, even in a happy marriage. 1Corinthians 7:28

Having no accountability to the Almighty God Jehovah is also freedom, especially if you do not believe in a Creator or heavenly life giver in the first place;
but either way you choose not to survive the end of this life in Satans world, it takes obedience to imitate Jesus.
John 3:36

There is no burning hellfire as Christendom teaches, you will be quickly destroyed forever, and only the meek and obedient subjects of Jesus as King, will survive to inherit the new earth.

Exactly.

My experience, for what it's worth:
I regret all the years I spent trying to keep my father 'happy'. With hindsight it was me that couldn't cope, not him. I was 16 years old before I could tell him that I didn't believe in any god(s) and wouldn't go to church anymore. He was upset, but accepted it. I still wonder if he was a believer when he died. He turned out to be the only believer in our family and I doubt if he was superstitious by nature.

Always better to get things out in the open. If that upsets people, it isn't the fault of the non-believer. We shouldn't even try to lie, least of all to the ones we really care about. They need our respect as well as our empathy and consideration.

Disbelief in god(s) is a rational and moral position. It doesn't belong 'in the closet' and the truth will out. Religion is outdated and divisive.

Yes, yes-- that is what you UGLY CHRISTIANS do:

You commit all sorts of ATROCITY, and then you cast the MAGIC SPELL OF NO CONSEQUENCE: "jewsus! Forgive me!"

And like MAGIC, you get off without any accountability!

It is NO WONDER that the majority of CRIMINALS belong to your ugly hate-cult!

So nice of you to share.

angel I'm still waiting for your answer. At least one person on here did say God was "a possibility" which is more than we you will admit. As for the odds...the odds against us popping up out of thin air....actually out of nothing........are so high that its impossible. Atheism is dumb...period.

i guess you guys don't really have an answer......surprise surprise. I admit it was really a trick question though because I already knew you didn't have any answers as to how life popped into existence from nothing and that something HAD to have been created.

Nothing you say above? Is any sort of argument in support of your myth-god.

Sad, really.

And answer to WHAT?

That you are **delusional**?

All faith is actually delusional-- for proof?

Look back at history, when people just KNEW the world was flat.

Did that make the world FLAT? Nope.

bob I'm still waiting for you or anyone else to tell me how life sprang up from absolutely nothing without any intelligence behind it. Can you explain it? Of course you can't.

still waiting mikko.....apparently you aren't able to answer it either. I'll pose the question for you again. How did life arise from absolutely nothing? There was no air, molecules, nothing. Something HAD to have been created in the beginning so how did that happen? This time try and give an answer to defend YOUR position rather than name calling.
