Yucca Valley man killed in motorcycle crash

Full story: Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

A 49-year-old Yucca Valley motorcyclist died in a traffic collision Monday. The unidentified man was riding a black 2008 Harley-Davidson west on Yucca Trail at 5:23 p.m. when a driver in a 2009 Ford Flex made a left turn in front of him, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

I know a person is at fault when they make a turn in front of someone and cause the crash. But it can be so difficult to see a motorcycle depending on the conditions. Especially if the motorcycle is moving much faster than you expect it to be or it should be. It's almost happened to me before. Everything looks clear and suddenly a motorcycle looms in front of you. It's a sad situation regardless. My prayers and condolences for the family of the motorcycle rider. And my thoughts are also with the driver of the car.

The driver of the car is obviously a deaf and blind idiot! EVERY Harley I've been on or around have loud pipes to purposely alert cage drivers of their existence. My husband was hit on his Harley last summer and thankfully he's doing great now but it was a long road to recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the biker.....and to the driver of the car..... I hope you do many, many years of "mental" jail time!

Idiot, as it seems a very appropriate name, in case your husband didn't tell you, the pipes project most of the noise to the rear, behind the bike. That doesn't help a person meeting him head-on that might turn in front of him. If the driver of the car was headed into the sun she could easily not see the motorcycle coming. It's not really her fault that the motorcycle and rider might be difficult to see. It's just part of the chance we take when we ride our bikes on the road. We know that the driver of the car may not see us, we slow down when we come into and intersection, especially if we see a car waiting to make a turn across the road. It's part of riding. For you to say the driver of the car is obviously a deaf and blind idiot just shows your own ignorance. It could happen to anyone. Even someone like those of us who ride motorcycles could accidentally not see a motorcycle coming when we're driving a car. So sorry for your husband, sorry about his accident. And sorry that he is stuck with a wife like you.

People like you are the worst of the worst. You represent bikers in a bad light. Maybe you don't know it, but a responsible motorcyclist is the first to admit and awknowlege that motorcycles are hard to see and easily not noticed. They ride accordingly. They understand that someone doesn't have to be "blind and deaf" to not see a motorcycle and it's rider. We understand that we take a risk everytime we venture out on our motorcycles. And the risk is not because people in cars don't care about us and don't watch out for us, but because we are on a motorcycle, something smaller and harder to see. We have to understand that, and by realizing that we behave differently than we would when we're driving our cars.

If your husband thinks like you, then I guess it might be one of the reasons he had his accident.

I know the man that was killed. We have lost a dear friend and we will greatly miss him. My heart goes out to his mother and daughter as well as the lady who struck him. All involved in the accident are victims in this situation. Even though I have lost my friend, it is the woman who my heart goes out to the most because she will have to live with this forever. Just doesn't seem right. Accidents happen..

Exactly! What a thoughtful and considerate post. I'm very sorry that you lost your dear friend. I agree with you that all involved are victims. I'm sure the woman who collided with him simply didn't see him or didn't see him in time. I think we all have had near-misses where we didn't see someone until the last moment and almost pulled out in front of them. I know I've done it, and it happened when it was a car, and I still didn't see it until it was almost too late. It was just luck that saved me. I can only imagine what may have happened had it been a smaller motorcycle instead of a car that I almost missed. I may not have seen it at all.

So I can have sympathy for the gentleman who passed away, his family, and also can feel sympathy for the lady who was involved. It so sad to read mean and nasty comments like the one by the woman who hopes the driver suffers. The one who appropriately calls herself "idiot".
It could have happened to any of us. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of both involved.

i am dougs youngest daughter. I miss him very much.
He was the best father a girl could have. i love him so much and i know i will see him again someday. But the thing is when i read some of these comments that people left like the people fighting about the noise of the motorcycle its ignorant for you to even sit here and say something when you prolly dont even kno what this feels like. but hey i could be wrong. all i kno is that lady pulled in front of my daddy because she thought she could make it. she was not deaf she was not blind she saw my only father comming down that stupid road.so i would appreciate it if u would take ur mean comments somewhere else. the only thing that matters is that i lost my father and others lost a brother a son and a friend. who cares about the noise it made

Dougs Daughter, I've looked back through all the posts, and I don't see anything mean written about your father. The only mean things I see written are about the lady who was in the accident with your father. That woman called her deaf, blind, and talked about the loud mufflers. None of that matters. The only thing matters is that it was a terrible accident. I've almost done the same thing myself. Because a motorcycle is small, it always looks like it's going much slower than it really is when it approaches you. It looks like you have plenty of time to turn before it gets to you. But then suddenly it's right there. I'm sure the woman never would have tried to turn if she thought he was that close. I'm sure she probably thought she had plenty of time to turn.

My condolences to you and your family for your loss. I think everyone here also feels very sad that you lost your father in that accident. All of the other posts were sympathetic. Only the one by that lady that calls herself "idiot" was mean. I don't think she was trying to be mean to you or your family. I think she was only trying to be mean to the lady that was in the accident with your father.

first of all sammy i just happened to be on this other posting too.it,s your auntie vic,and i too am upset because if most of these people bothered to look at the photo of the desert star paper in yucca valley of your father/my brothers horrific accident you too may come to the conclusion we have and be a little more pissed off too. tracy clearly cut across rather than turn across, go ahead people look for yourself before posting your sorrows for her because i too had compassion until i saw what she did!and then look at our mother and dougs children.and she was not going into the sun.he was!i want to see more compassion towards my brother and his daughters and grandbabies, and our greiving elderly mother.
sweetie,we are all upset, and i promise you we will make sure people are held accountable.hang in their sweetheart.
