Redlands skatepark on hold due to funding

I have yet to meet a "skater" who wasn't a punk, a criminal, a vandal, a tagger, or on their way to becoming any/all of these.

And who is going to assume the liability for this "park"?

Spend the money on the Redlands Library, and teach these kids to read. It's a much beter use of the money.

The people in this town who have the money would be wise to invest in the youth of Redlands by donating to this skatepark cause. Your failure to support the youth of this community contributes to the loss of hope and lack of a feeling of connectiveness among our youth who are left without. Remember please - if you are not there for our youth - someone else less desireable will be. Many youth turn to drugs as a means to escape from their feelings of hopelessness which stemmed from the failure on the part of those adults who should have been there for them in a positive manner to begin with. Please people, lets work to prevent the loss of another generation of youth to drug dealers and other people who use our youth to support their own devious desires. Support the efforts of this skatepark as a means to provide Redlands youth with a feeling of true community caring and responsiveness to those youth by building this skatepark so that our youth can have their community niche.

Numbers

I used to live in a town where closed minded people though exactly what you expressed here about the skaters there. While it is true that there is a certain segment of skaters that are of the like you describe, it is not the truth concerning all skaters. In the town I lived, the skaters who were not in the catagory you place them in were very hurt. They took action and they ended up getting a skate park which proved to be a beneficial move. I am not a skater and never have been, but knowing this I see that you are in the bias bunch. I am a highly educated person, and as such I am not afforded such bias. I am all for teaching reading. I love reading and have a mini library. You can't expect to put youth behind a book all of the time. They also need to use their body to help keep muscle mass. People need balance in their lives - not bias.

Why can't the kids just hop on the bus and go to one of the already existing skateparks, and save The Taxpayers a million dollars?

Or maybe kids can start "thinking ahead", as in if there's no place to ride a skateboard, then don't buy a skateboard.

My son is 11 has a 4.0 average and rides for six different firms.
He has been on a deck since he was 3. I guess your limited interaction with non-thugs has blurred your reality.

Honestly share the results. If he turns out clean, I'll apologize. But when the test comes out dirty, I expect you to do the same. I'm tired of these kids thinking they somehow control streets and sidewalks. When I'm walking downtown, they think it is fun to terrorize us by using pedestrians as "human flagsticks", cutting as close to us as possible, and then laughing about it. As I stated before, my grandson is none of the qualities YOU embodied in your youth. Just because either you or your child is a loser, doesn't mean all our children are. I would not test my grandson because I love and trust him. He is respectful not only to me, but to all his elders...we are raising him the proper way, WITH RESPECT FOR ALL, despite people like you stereotyping and attempting to lump bad apples with good. You won't test him? Why? Do you already know he's got a stash hidden in his room? If he's clean, then you have nothing to fear from the test. But refusing to test him proves to me you've got a serious issue ahead of you. Wait until your little precious applies for a job. Pot use stays in the hair follicles for up to six months. We test (and reject) applicants for that, all the time.

Ok all you experts here's the deal. Any money that has been raised towards the skatepark has come from private donations. ZERO I repeat ZERO $$ has come from city funds nor has any been asked for. The concept here was that if this was ever to get built the money was going to have to come from PRIVATE DONATIONS. About the time this project was starting to get in gear the economy was starting into it's downward spiral. So if anybody cares to donate to the effort the info on where to do so in the article.

The land designated for the skatepark is within Sylvan Park and is designated as recreational space.The plunge was recreational. The city needs another recreational facility there. No corruption. Actually, it would be compliance. It is in the plan. Check it out. Already have the brain and using it. Redlands police and fire have volunteered their time to raise money for the skatepark.
