I wonder if she was hungover from the night before and decided to take a shot or two to take the edge off and get rid of the hangover. One shot led to two and then so on. Maybe once she took that first drink she couldnt stop. I also think that once she called the brother and he said he was calling the state police she decided to get back on the road so as not to get busted for a DUI. I doubt the suicide only because of all the kids in the car but then again people do it all the time. Kill family and then themselves. If the husband never saw her drunk she most certainly could stay sober for long periods of time. She couldn't wait a few additional hours to get her fix? She had to drink while driving and endanger everyone around her? To me the case screams of suicide. Maybe her brother knew of her "problem" which is why he told her to stay put until he got there. If she were having a stroke he would have told her to call 911. I think the brother new she was drunk and he was giving her hell for it. She got made and through her phone out the window and went on a reckless rampage. How do you drink the equivalent of 10 shots of alcohol and stay straight enough to drive 1.7 miles the wrong way on a highway, but manage to crash head on with another vehicle after that. I think it was a purposeful act. If cars were avoiding her and she wasn't trying to kill herself she would have swerved right along with them and ended up in a ditch a lot earlier than she did. I'd be interested in hearing about the phone calls. There were 2 that she received and 2 that she made. Maybe she was having an affair and got in an argument with her lover and decided to act reckless and careless.

On July 14, 2005 after a fight with her mother, Sliwinski burst out the door and took her Ford Mustang out in an attempt to take her own life by speeding down Dempster Street in Skokie, Illinois. Instead she took the lives of John Glick of The Returnables, Douglas Meis of The Dials and EXO, and Michael Dahlquist of Silkworm when her car was going nearly 90 mph, ran three red lights and hit their car at an intersection. Both vehicles were flipped over. The first calls to Skokie 911 came in about 12:15 pm. Before Meis died, he and Sliwinski were both taken to the hospital in ambulances. Police wanted to interview Meis before going into emergency surgery, but police were too late when Meis died 10 minutes later from multiple injuries. When police interviewed Sliwinski, asking if she purposely drove into the car or not, she repeatedly changed her story

Not all the time, though.
Ex-deputy Chris Jones sentenced to 23 years in prison
Sentenced in killing of karaoke-bar deejay
By Lawrence Buser (Contact), Memphis Commercial Appeal
Friday, August 14, 2009
A former Shelby County sheriff's sergeant who put hundreds of offenders behind bars since 1991 will spend the next 23 years in prison for killing a karaoke-bar deejay last year in East Memphis.
Chris Jones was convicted in May of second-degree murder for shooting Donald "D.J." Munsey during an altercation involving Jones and several customers at the Windjammer Restaurant and Lounge, 786 E. Brookhaven Circle.
"This was not an unusual circumstance," said Criminal Court Judge John Fowlkes Jr., who sentenced Jones on Friday.
"This is what happens when people bring firearms and alcohol together," he said.
The shooting occurred in the early-morning hours of March 14 last year, two weeks after Jones' longstanding and bitter divorce proceedings were finalized.
"He'll be 60 when he gets out and he'll still have a life," said an angry Stacie Harris, Munsey's girlfriend and mother of two of Munsey's three children. "D.J. doesn't have a life anymore.(Jones) should have never been a police officer."
Special Prosecutor Bret Gunn said Jones was angry and intoxicated and had threatened to kill two customers, saying he had nothing left to lose.
Witnesses said Jones shot Munsey in the neck during a melee and wounded customer Justin Smith in the buttocks as Smith ran for the door.
Jones said he was only trying to defend himself from a drunken mob and accused prosecutors of "railroading a career lawman."

I've been following this story - it has me so upset! I've now read 3 different reasons why her husband drove separately - 1. He didn't want to stop at Mc Donald's., 2. He was going fishing., 3. His vehicle had commercial plates and he could'nt take the same roads. Does anyone know the real reason??
Another thing that't strange, why did she call her brother and not her husband when she was running late and especially when she wasn't feeling well??
The whole story is not being told here. Last update by the private investigator was 8/18, I believe. It doesn't take a week to retrieve phone records. Who called Ms. Schuler on her cell phone??? Is her body going to be exumed to accomodate her husband's curiosity??? She left her cell phone in a ledge and continued on. Was she so drunk that she didn't realize she left it there, or did she leave it on purpose because she was suicidal???

Isn't it obvious they took seperate vehicles due to the fact this was the "normal" dysfunctional family.
They obviously couldn't stand each others company unless they were stoned or drunk, which is why hubby preferred to travel with the fken DOG !!!

Most fatal crashes are not with drinking driver, so if you want to kill people who kill, you have to kill them all, including the sober ones that don't any excuse at all for killing in traffic collisions.
Of course, the only way that death penalty can be given to someone in a car crash, would be if the prosecutor, the police who's police reprorts, testimony and evidence is used in the trial, the jury and any witnesses who testify are successful at passing a polygraph pertaining those details. If they fail their polygraph, then they will be on death penalty trial themselves.

I too have been following this story I say let the families heal. With all this negative press all's it does is create anger, with to much of that it creates hate and with to much hate and rage the innocent victims will never heal. how come no ones asked how the son is doing or Mrs. Hance who lost her 3 beatiful little girls and how is the family of the passengers in the other car God bless all of you.

If Diane Schuler took Ambien to get to sleep for her insomnia and tooth pain as well, that might be the answer, especially if she couldn't fall asleep and finally got out of bed and took it around or just after midnight ... it could be. It would still be in her system when she left the Campgrounds in the morning.
Most Ambien related car accidents/deaths do happen sometime in the morning hours, not usually later in the day. Google it and check it out.
I know of someone (a former neighbor)who took Ambien in the early evening and woke up in a trance-like state in the middle of the night.
He was found driving around erratically in the middle of the night, and at first, it was assumed he was drunk, although family and close friends said he never drank, so they were puzzled but later found out the Ambien caused this bizarre reaction. He looked fine and appeared normal but was actually in a trance or "drunk like" state even though he had no alcohol in his system and no prior history of this before taking Ambien. Big Pharma Drug companies keep this info/data hush-hush so they can sell more drugs and make more $$$.
Now, it's no secret that OTC's such as Excedrin, Naproxen, Aleve & other OTC pain relievers quite often cause false positive test results for alcohol and pot/THC so that may explain the toxicology report.
Google ... "OTC and false positive drug tests"
In my neighbor friends case, luckily no one was injured. Ambien has a devastating effect on some people. So, it could have still been in Diane Schuler's system the morning of the crash since she was driving in the morning.
So, maybe she couldn't sleep and finally gave up trying and took the the Ambien Pill just after midnight and was technically still asleep when she left the campgrounds. After all, it would still be in her system. When this happens the person is in a trance-like state meaning they appear quite normal and awake, like when we are on automatic pilot, but they are technically asleep. Their conscience mind is off, it's not engaged, so the sub-conscience mind takes over ... not good.
Upon awakening, imagine how terrifying it was for her not knowing how she got to where she was, especially if you "come to" and you're driving on a major highway and you realize you are not in bed, having a dream ... "oh my god ... this isn't a dream" type of thought. You would panic. It's just the opposite of what happens when we are in a dream and we are about to crash our car in the dream but then we wake up relieved it was only a dream.
Maybe she went through the opposite scenario. I've had dreams like that myself but then woke up relived I wasn't driving and in a crash and it was a dream. Her situation was the opposite. She was sleeping in the real world state and woke up to find out she created a nightmare she couldn't get out of.
I never took the sleep drug Ambien b/c of the scary side effects and for this risky reason as well.
A doctor told me it's risky as you may not know you are in a "hypnotic like" trance and then when you come out of it you do not know how you got there and so you panic. So, he didn't prescribe Ambien for my sleep problems.
No one can make a good decision when in a place of sheer fear and panic ... no one ... not even Diane Schuler.

I took 2 Ambien at bedtime for 5 years and I NEVER did weird stuff, especially drive a car.
I'm taking 1 at bedtime now. You need to go right to bed after you take this stuff, not stay up and do things. I know it messes some people up, but fortunately it never bothers me.
Are you looking for an excuse for this revolting woman? They didn't find Ambien in her system, but found plenty of alcohol.
I think she was a closet drunk, or her family knew and just acted like it was "out of sight, out of Mind".
I have severe problems with insomnia, and can't sleep without Ambien. I hope they don't remove it from the market, just because some people have problems with it.
Look at all the problems people have with alcohol, but a lot of people could care less.

I just read your ambien statement and I think you are right. Ambien is the exact shape and color of a motrin caplet. Is it possible she thought it was motrin. I took ambien once and had an extreme delirium. I have never had something like that happen ever before or since. I was awake but talking gibberish and had no idea who or where I was. Luckily my husband was home and was able to control me and keep me from walking out the door. He said I was in a panic saying I had to go help "the bride in the picture" It was extreme and yet I had no recollection of it when it finally wore off.

Ambien is a very small round tablet. I have taken it nightly for a while and I have never confused it for something else.
