The after-dinner conversation last night morphed into ridiculous blue-sky ideas, with some equally wild detours, on ways to breathe economic and social life into Towns County, perhaps for the first time in its history, or the last. WTH, the county is already going to hell in a handbasket, so why not go down in a blaze of glory?

Given there are so many staunch Republicans and Baptists here who firmly believe in states-rights (so why not county rights, it was argued?).

It's the perfect storm! Locally grown pot is plentiful (and cheap), that we have so many houses standing empty and, especially, since it is human nature to sin anyway, why not start by legalizing, or just have the sheriff look the other way, the non-medical use of pot (as in Colorado and Washington) and tax the hell out of it, off the books?

The off-set would be to do away with property taxes. Then, also sort of legalize local gambling and transform some of those empty, over-priced mini-mansions into mini-casinos to bring in high rolling, cash flush tourists from Hot 'Lanta. To really make this a tourist Mecca, there would have to be entertainment. Of course. That would mean big-name stars, like in Branson, and prostitutes, like in Reno (and everywhere else). There are lots of houses available for that.

Would that ever boost the economy!

Damn, my head hurts this morning. ;=(

Bad idea. Making it legal would mean Atlanta and Washington would get a cut. Keep it all at home, I say.

Paying off the sheriff and commissioner would be less expensive. They'd rant and rave against it when they run for office of course but once in, wouldn't care were the "extra" money came from - after all, they're politicians and fraud, graft and corruption is a way of life.

(For the brain-dead, I hope you aren't taking this seriously!)
