In the next few weeks you will read about the school budget being over one and a half million short. That comes after the largest tax increase in the history of Towns County last year.
Here is why. The administration cost for Towns County schools is three times what it should be when compares to surrounding Counties. Look at White, Lump kin, Union, Fannin, Rabun, which are all two or three time larger than Towns and serve hundreds of more student. Yet their administration costs are less than Towns. They have gotten creative in hiding their wasteful spending but it is still going on.
While they are hiring graduation Coaches and additional staff at the administration office they are letting good teachers with PhD's go to replacing them with inexperienced staff to cut costs. Although we can't afford to keep the best Science teacher in the school system we can afford to hire a football coach and his wife at a package will over $100,000.00 per year.
It is time we sent Miss Williams and her family friends packing. It is time we take back our schools and stop the waste. It is time we elect a school board that cares as much about the children as they do keeping their incompetent friends and family on the payroll.

You assume I work for the school because I don't agree with your psychotic ramblings? How does it fell to go through life bitching and complaining about something you can do nothing about? If you would make a better addition to the school why not go put in an application?

I did put in an application about six months ago for a science position that became open because they found child porn on someone's computer. Of course the Sheriff's department did not investigate. The person was allowed to resign and is probably doing his dirty deeds at another school. From what I understand that is the policy unless you are a School Board members daughter, then you can just pray away the crime.
I guess I didn't get the job because I have a PhD and I am not friends with the Superintendent or a family member of one of the school board members. I also don't teach gym or coach football. I teach Science to children who want to learn. I also don't care who their parents are or what their GPA was since middle school. I grade on merit and accomplishment not name and because I am told to give a certain grade because if I don't their parent who works for the Administration will have me fired.

In Towns County, if a teacher can't teach, or doesn't feel like it, or is a proven incompetent, they get promoted and become an administrator? Is that how it works here?

Pretty much, or you can be the son of the superintendents best friend and get hired to be a principal even though your prior experience was a gym teacher for seven years and assistant principal for six months and lack the normal administration degrees required of a principal.
Or you can be a football coach.

Speaking of football coaches I was told that they are having a hard time filling the staff . Apparently the new guy wants them up there 12 hours a day and cut their pay. However he is possibly getting paid more than Langford. Will this joke or nightmare ever end?

He will find ambition and extra effort is not the norm for many at that school. Mark your calendars. My call is he is gone after two seasons along with the Superintendent and her boy toy principal. Two of the three School Board seats up in 2014 are probably not running and the third will get his butt beat when the news comes out. One who just got elected might not be there much longer either. She is being looked at for removal by the governor's office I hear.
The new coach's pay will be public record in a few weeks. My guess is between him and his wife about $110,000 per year. There is a budget comparison between Towns and Union, Rabun, White and Fannin being passed around town. It shows the number of students, number of schools, number of administration personnel and total amount of administration salaries. It will run in a full page ad come election time. It is shocking to see how much Towns County spends compared to the other larger school districts. It also shows how much was spent before the administration hiring boom. The funny thing is the number of students served has not gone up but the administration budget has gone up several thousand percent. Someone is directing the campaign to out the school board that knows what they are doing. The information and material being used is professionally done and very damning. This might really be the end of the line for some people who think they are untouchable. I pray it is so our town can begin to heal.
When the truth comes out, the people of this County will be screaming mad.

Anyone see the article on the front page of the paper about the Horrible CRCT test scores. The newspaper did all they could to sugar coat it but the scores were down from last year. Then they rank them with the other schools in this region. If you rank them with the State it is much worse. Considering the State is in the bottom five in the Nation the scores were a total disaster. Great job Ms. Williams you are well on the way to lowering Towns County scores down to the level of the last school system you worked for.
Then you have Elvis chiming in about graduation rates. Explain how each 9th grade class starts with over 100 kids then graduates about 70 but we have a 95% graduation rate.

That number becomes significantly more important when one considers 95%(+/-) of the students, the best and brightest, leave Towns County after graduation and must compete with other students from all across the state, region and country for coveted college admission slots and jobs.

Comparing "like-schools-to-like-sch ools" is meaningless, misleading pabulum a failing school district spoon feeds parents who are apathetic to begin with as evidenced by "non-attendance" at school board meetings yet who place great importance on the success or failure of the football team.

That so-called 95% graduation rate is a prime example of bureaucrats covering their rear-ends with misleading statistics in order to make themselves appear as if they're doing their job. There was, and probably still is, as there are in many school districts today, a "special school" where "certain" children are sent, for various reasons, in effect allowing the school administration to "improve" it's graduate percentage and also reduce it's drop-out rate - on paper.

Who is responsible/liable for the accuracy of these n umbers as reported to the state? Apparently they do not watch the news and see the indictments being handed down in Dekalb, Atlanta and elsewhere.
