Anyone read the paper this week? Two things stood out. 1st. The grand jury list is almost entirely made up of GOB and GOG Thank you Cecil for selecting a true representation of our county. Don't take a chance on putting people on there that might ask a question or two about what is going on around here. Wish I knew where to file a complaint. 2nd. Everyone see the names on the foreclosure lists? Some are people who have lost their jobs and other are developers who got caught in the down turn. My heart goes out to them. The ones that really scald my butt is the people who work for the school system and other governmental agencies like BREMC who have their health insurance paid for, draw a guaranteed check every week and have not suffered a tiny bit from the economy down turn. Yet they let their house go in foreclosure. That's just plain soreness. Deadbeats who just don't pay their bills and figure they can lay their bills off on the rests of us who are struggling to pay our mortgage and eat. I hope they end up living in a box.

Even if you have a job the economy effects you.It costs so much more to feed your family, buy gas to go to work etc that even people with jobs suffer.

How does it cost more to feed your family? Gas is cheaper now than three years ago. I agree with Scalded. I noticed several foreclosures the last few weeks that were from people I know have good paying jobs. One had bought a new home and because their old one lost value they just let it go back to the bank. That loss will be passed along to us and our children. I agree they are deadbeats. The people who lost their jobs or work in construction who lost their homes are not at fault. Nobody knew this would happen. I'm fed up with the people who make good money and just don't pay their bills.

Grand jury is hand picked by Dye. They don't want anyone on there who will not sign off on their agendas. Been that way for years. How do you think the corruption in this county has been allowed to go on for so long. When we finally get some honest people in office the truth will shock all of us. Wake up people.

Just because you THINK people who have job security can outlast this economy that is affecting everyone as a whole, excuse me but that tells me you have a closed angle narrow minded way through tunnel vision! You don't realize how many people had to pay the same prices for the upward cost due to oil prices hiking up among other devastations that have cost anyone and everyone. You are the type of person that karma loves to get so remember you wished bad and mocked the suffering when it comes back to haunt you!

Only the people who are using the suffering of others to cover their own lack of morals and honor. IF Karma is going to strike anyone I would bet on the deadbeats who can pay but choose not to because it is easy. If you look at any cost of goods and compare it to 2005 you will see the cost of living is down. If you have health care and two checks coming that are larger today than when you took out your loan something is wrong. Either you bought above your means or you are just unwilling to meet your debts. Those who have lost their jobs should be in all our prayers. Those who default because it's easier than paying your bills are burdens on the rest of us and our children. They are losers and should be exposed for what they are.

Explain how putting money into something to turn around and loose it, is not suffering? People don't just go into debt to loose their ass! I don't know what cave you came out of or what your life is but I can imagine it is not as good as you wish it to be. These people may loose "stuff" but you need more to gain than "stuff". This much is obvious! I hope you never know ALL the people who are suffering by name. They don't need a mouth like you in their lives to hurt them worse!

So, what's being done – LOCALLY!- to attract and bring in new industry and new business', and maybe even tourists, all of which translates into steady jobs? Answer: nothing! One possible solution is with those of us who either don't depend on the local economy to make a living, like myself, or are retired. Many in latter group, especially, are still in contact with their former employer (or still own a big piece of the stock) and were in middle management, some in upper management, others as investors, plus they have children who are climbing corporate ladders all over the world. If all this "Floridian bashing" could stop, as a first step, perhaps they would be willing to "pitch" Towns County if an expansion is planned. That was recently done. Towns County was not on the list of places one company had intended to consider, but, an exception was okayed - as a favor to a retiree living So, what's being done – LOCALLY!- to attract and bring in new industry and new business', and maybe even tourists, all of which translate into jobs? Sadly, the "industrial park" would not have satisfied government safety requirements (which called for 25 acres). The old Mohawk plant wouldn't work either, for a number of reasons, and building a new facility was out of the question given the sewer situation.(Shades of the Lowe’s debacle?) Finding leads would be/is the easy part, given some of the people living here – which is a potential gold mine. Getting Kendall and his so-called industrial board to get off their collective asses and make an effort would be the hardest part. This much is obvious! I hope you never know ALL the people who are suffering by name. They don't need a mouth like you in their lives to hurt them worse! It is called switch and dump. It is being done by across America by people who realize they paid to much for their homes. They go out and buy a 2nd home then default on the first one. It trashes their credit for about 5 years but they cut their mortgage payments and usually get a larger home. The problem is the old home they walked away from then becomes a problem for the taxpayers who must pay for the loss through additional taxes and higher interest rates. A liberal view of this would be good for them, they are working the system. A conservative view would be cowboy up and pay your bills like the majority of us are. In some cases where jobs have been lost there is no possibility of paying for homes purchased when the owner had a job. Those instances are not what I was referring to. I pray for those families. I was referring to cases where both bread winners are still working the same job and making as much or more than they did when they took out the loan and purchased the home. They simply choose to walk away from that debt and hang it on those of us who pay our bills because they can. There is not a person posting here who owns property who have not experienced a drastic drop in the value of that property in the last two years. The difference is the majority of us find a way to pay our bills because it is the right thing to do and we honor our word. The weasels of the world do whatever they can to beat the system and lay their problems off on the rest of us.The FBI recently hired over 2500 new investigators to look into this very problem. I have forwarded the foreclosure notice along with a request for investigation on several local properties to them. Every economic downturn brings out the grifters and scam artists to prey upon the innocent. Those people who are dumping homes on the taxpayers without good cause is no different than someone who shoplifts. They drive the cost of living up for all of us. Criminals need to be exposed for what they are.

Criminals need to be exposed for what they are. Say what you mean and mean what you say to begin with and people won't mistake what you are trying to say. That's the problem with all of this. People who mistake things and take them out of context to make it suit their mood. I for one would not be judging anyone in these times because it very well could be me in the paper. I know from common sense that people with expensive stuff usually have expensive payments. Those who don't just think people are rich. I also know that most office workers of any type get paid less than people think. Just because someone has a job or two have a job, does not mean that they are rich. It means money is coming in and usually the income to debt ratio is under what debt is due. Takes money to make money and if your bank loans you more than you are worth, they are ignorant as well. A little more common sense tells us that banks are hurting themselves and over extended as well. So it is a domino effect that rolls down hill. Get over the second home owners because if they loose one, they will loose the next one. Watch and see. It's been like that for years. I know the ones you are talking about. The borrow from Peter to pay Paul method is a old one. Sooner or later that comes to a head. I know family's who will use the credit of one family member after the next untill they have all filed bankruptsy. Sooner or later, they will run out of family to do this with but the government and banks are to blame most of all for allowing it to happen. It is their stupid more than anyone else's.
