Those guys who do Hellawassee.com must have a crystal ball. They coined the term Lake Chituge last year. Welcome to our town. Don't eat the fish.
I wonder if they keep pumping the sewage into the lake how long before they shut down swimming too. I know my kids took their last dip in that sewage treatment pond.

It's funnier that the city gets its water from the same lake. And the intake is right below a cemetery.

The wife and I found a nice walk to take near the Lake Chatuge Dam. Afterwards, our dog would walk down to the lake for a drink. Within six months our pet developed a tumor on her liver. The vet suspected liver cancer. The dog past on the operating table. All I'm sayin is... there could be some truth to overall health risks of Lake Chatuge.

We stopped letting our children swim in the lake about three years ago. A local doctor told us he treats more intestinal parasites and ear infections in children that swim in the lake then he can count. He was considering calling the CDC in Atlanta.
Most of the Mercury is from the coal burning plants. The Fecal matter, high bacteria and other toxins are from bad septic systems and the sewage treatment plant. The little lady on the front page of the paper this week talking about the lake is not telling the whole story. I have seen independent water sample reports that are off the chart. The lake is a poison pit.

The lake has been a open cesspool for years. When the system got out of balance they just dumped the system in the lake and started a new batch. That may have stopped now but it is still nothing but a sewage treatment settling pond like you see on the south side of Helen. The only difference is we call it a lake and try and use it as one. People who know what goes on around here have not swam in the lake or eaten fish out of it for years.
Years of no having a storm water management plan, dumping sewage from the city plant, straight pipe septic systems in old homes and now acid rain from the power plants have doomed Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge.

Mostly it's all the idiot Floridians who live right by the lake. OK, so it was some of the greedy locals who allowed them to build so close and have questionable septic systems.

It is and do you know who allowed it to become that way, why the sewage system facility has not been expanded or upgraded? All you have to do is look to King Bill and his superior, Queen Barbara.

Rather than do what they should, they instead blame each other when someone asks and ignore it the rest of the time. Rather than spend the money, one goes on a building spree so he can increase the size of his kingdom, among other things, the other one buys and renovates a huge building suitable for her comfort and station in life.
