Looks as if the myth of YHC being a "Christian college" is taking a big hit.

Sounds to me Ms, Cox will be spending considerable time in a Federal courtroom over the next year. Both as President of YHC and as an individual regarding Civil rights violations.

I heard about this. I think You Have Cash, we have diploma might have a problem. Two Federal cases will draw the attention of the National Media especially with ol Cathy being named in one of them.

I do not understand why more people in Hiawassee are not very concerned about the federal lawsuit against YHC. It is all over Blairsville Topix.Hazing and violating civil rights, these are very serious charges. In my opinion.the president also played a big part in the outcome of our election.

The Civil rights complaint involves a local girl. It alleges sex discrimination and age discrimination. Her father told me as soon as the Department of Education office of civil rights is done with them they are filing a multi million dollar civil suit and naming Cox as an individual because she made the decision that caused it.

I noticed the letter to the editor this week was regarding the article last week about the lawsuit against YHC.
I agree with the writer. If the reporter who wrote the story did not bother to check their facts or offer YHC the opportunity to respond they are not a reporter. Just a story teller.
On the other hand It was refreshing to read a actual news worthy story in the paper for once. I guess they are getting the message after being slammed in several public forums and elsewhere about the total lack of news in their paper.
The paper is a joke and a bad one at that.

Did anyone read the allegations? That suit will go NOWHERE yet cost the school thousands to defend, money they can not recover because the Plaintiffs are penniless. Their lawyer is no doubt going for a quick cash settlement, from which he'll take most of, but if the school refuses, they'll drop the suit.

I read the actual complaint. It's available on line. There have been many large settlements that involved hazing. I would not be so quick to dismiss this. There is also another matter involving discrimination at YHC. That is not a minor issue either. I would say YHC better lawyer up with some good Federal Court lawyers. They are in for a long expensive ride.

Ms. Cox has served on the Board of Directors of United and the board of United Community Bank since 2008. Ms. Cox has been President of Young Harris College, a private, liberal arts college in North Georgia, since 2007. In her short time at the college, she has moved the college from two-year to four-year status, increased enrollment of the institution by 50 percent, doubled the size of the faculty, and added nearly $50 million in new facilities to the campus. Prior to joining the college, Ms. Cox served as the Georgia Secretary of State. Twice elected, in this role she served as the Commissioner of Securities, overseeing the regulation of the securities industry within the state. She also participated in one of the largest ever national settlements against national investment banks for state and federal law violations. Ms. Cox was twice elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where she served on the House Judiciary Committee; Game, Fish and Parks Committee; State Institutions and Properties Committee; Georgia Code Revision Commission; and various House study committees. Prior to her public service, Ms. Cox worked as an attorney, first as an associate with Hansell & Post in Atlanta, Georgia, and then as a partner with Lambert, Floyd & Conger in Bainbridge, Georgia. She started her professional career as a newspaper reporter. Ms. Cox holds an A.S. degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, an A.B.J. degree from University of Georgia, and a J.D. from Mercer University School of Law. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Mercer Law Review.

Good for her.Under Federal discrimination law if she violated the civil rights of a person she can be held personally accountable. If she didn't she has nothing to worry about.

It appears to be a case of a YHC newspaper teacher trying to make a good story for her paper. And who was the advisor, and used the girl who dropped out of pledge initiation, trying to get sour grapes retribution on the sorority.

Ms. Cox did what she needed to do, and should have done.

This community is fortunate to have someone of Ms. Cox's caliber at this college.

The community should pay so much attention before they elect the type of Sheriffs and Chief Deputys they have.

The women's softball coach was let go during that time. He was less than a year in to his contract. Wondering what happened there.

She's also spent the endowment into nothing in the process, used out of control spending with borrowed money, tried to stack the deck for local elections and now has a bona-fide national scandal on her hands.

Typical Democrat.
