here again got to look at the market. the building boom brought whats there now. with the bust whatever they got is what they got to work with.
heres the thing dial up speed is better than NO SPEED.
so be thankful for what you got, just adjust your bill.
I don't care who owns it, it sucks. Paying good money for high speed internet when the speed drops so low it can't maintain a connection after dark is the same as stealing.

Read the fine print in your contract!

Also, check to see how old your land-line filters are, if your connections are clean and tight (not corroded), and most of all, check YOUR computer.

You probably haven't cleaned your C drive or defragged it in months, if ever, and/or have been surfing in some dangerous water (porn sites, among otyhers). And what about updating your AV? Have you run a full system scan (five deep)? Is your fire-wall on? What about updates? If you use a wireless router, is it password protected or can your neighbors take a free ride on your band-width? How many programs do you have running in the BG? Then too, what settings do you have for security? For all you know your computer has been highjacked and is now part of a bot-net sending out a steady stream of spam, which Windstream doesn't monitor (volume or band-width usage).

Windstream isn't screwing you. You most likely haven't properly maintained your machine or taken necessary safeguards, which is usually the case, 99.9999999999% of the time.

Suggestion: at the least do a full system restore at the oldest point and see if that helps. If you don't know how to do that, then put the machine back in its box, close it up, put it in a dark closet and turn off the lights as you leave the room 'cause you ain't bright enough to own one.

I have three computers, this 5 year old desktop, one laptop 2 years old that gets very little use and one brand new 3 month old desktop. I use system restore & defrag on the old one all the time, they ALL run slow especially at night. People that work on the Windstream system have told me the problem is the old equipment. I had my first computer, a Tandy, before you knew what one was. You don't know what you are talking about or you don't live around here where Internet and phone problems are the norm..

LOL! Windstream was just blowing you off when they told you that!

Wrong on both accusations! I go all the way back to the Commodore 64, which I still have, BTW! I also live around here and don't have your problems (or hateful attitude). I have BRMEMC.NET (fiber optics).

Have you used "disk cleanup?" And if you have, have you gone back and actually deleted the files,'cause they're still there even after you "automatically"....

Then do what even the newbie knows to do - run a speed test on your lappy then hustle on down to a hot spot, say the library, and see what the SAME speed test says on their wireless router. I believe it's on 396 (short for 24/7/365).

Failing that, check to make sure some of your older programs aren't causing a conflict (compatibility problems), and lose the attitude while you're at it! Your five year-old PC is surely XP and the newer one is what, Vista, Windows 7?

i agree with the norm, you do not know what you are talking about. it is not a problem with computers, it is windstream.
dsl works fine during the day but then takes a nose dive at night when everyone gets online, browsing the internet, watching netflix or roku.
it is like ten roads going to the central office but the office only has a one lane bridge going thru it to the internet, not much traffic it works fine, when traffic is heavy, there is a back-up, slow down or outage.
you have fiber optic? if so you are on a completely different road.

Then the OP should consider going with BRMEMC and quit bitchin', unless that's his/her intent or purpose in life, claiming his/her machines are "virgin" and the reason he/she isn't getting blinding speed 396 is caused by Windstream.

I got FO just last month. BIG difference and to me (and my business) well worth the cost! Both my/our IT, who is based in Europe and my/our web-master, who is based in California, are delighted. Where Windstream is sitting on their cans and doing as little as possible, BRM is putting in FO as they can afford it.

But if all the OP wants to do is complain, then he can solve his problems himself.

You are one clueless bloated eagomanic. A lot of folks in this county can't get BRMEMC's internet access, or even Windstreams sorry cable TV service. Obama funded BRMENC's fiber optics expansion and I still can't get it. You truely don't know shite!

The only ones around here who can't get BRMEMC.net , either dial-up or DSL, don't have a land-line or cell, or indoor plumbing. You can take that to the bank after you give yourself your daily enema!

i know i am not the only one with dsl internet access problem, windstrem knows the problem but they do not plan to fix till 1/26/13.
i have had no dsl service every night this week, the only way i can connect to internet is with dial-up.
everyone needs to call windstream 1-800-347-1991 and complain.
also contact psc at http://www.psc.state.ga.us/ and file a complaint about windstream.

I called over a month ago after a person in the repair department told me thats what I should do. Said to call the business office and tell them my internet service was not anything close to what I had been paying for for the last couple years. So I called the business office, they didn't know what to do. Promised to find out and call me back, that was two months ago. I have better things to do than waste time with Windstream, SOMEDAY another choice will come along and I am gone.

roll tide, you are absolutely a clueless idiot. The issue ws is having in the union/towns county area is long latency due to bottlenecking of the bandwith at peak periods of the day.in short, windstream has oversubscribed their dsl service and has not built their infrastructure to handle the higher useage. You also have told people to switch to bremc if they are not satisfied with ws.. bremc is a reseller of ws service.. It is ws infrastructure when using bremc.. check your facts dude before spouting off about things you have no clue about.
I have worked in the telecom industry for 31 years and I am sadly amazed at how ws can stay in business with the horrible level of customer support and the horrible level of service they provide to good paying customers. The only recourse for most folks is to complain to the FCC, the PSC, and the Consumers Affairs Division for the state of Georgia.. Maybe with enough government complaints, WS will be forced to get off their dead butts and build out their infrastructure and provide customers with what they are actually paying for (and stop stealing from customers).

BREMC is reselling some right now but they have built their own fiber to the main hub in Marietta so check your facts.plus DSL is not a necessity it is a luxury so there is not a lot the PSC or FCC can do.

Cram it! My business TOTALLY DEPENDS on good, consistant (and fast) service and since I can't get it around here, I HAD to go wireless, regardless of the cost. I don't like it but have no choice.
