I am not here to bash anyone or cause any arguments, i am simply just wondering why after all the years past that this year the Towns County fireman and rescue volunteers got shorted on their banquet and their end of the year checks? I had the pleasure of attending the banquet and don't get me wrong i am grateful for what was given to my husband and the other fireman and rescue personel, but please Subway sandwiches??? after these men and women leave sunday dinners with their own families or get out of bed at 3 in the morning to go racing to put out a fire or go help the elderly on a medical call, or help some injured victim in an accident why aren't these men and women recognized in a decent way? in a way that they know they are appreciated by the county. Not that it is the people in the Counties fault, but this is something the people of towns county should know, as well as the fact that the fire and rescue volunteers were expecting to get their check for the year which is determined on how many calls or fires and training they attend, and as if subway wasnt insulting enough...guess what no checks!! Almost everyone I know on the department has a family and in someway depends on that end of the year check for Christmas,Bills Etc. for what ever the reason they have earned it and need it and deserve it. Like i said i am not bashing the people in the county as I am not a native but my husband is and he is currently on the dept. in Towns county and the county that we reside in, and he along with all the others that we call when we are in need are Our Heroes and should be rocognized, I just wonder who the comm. would call if he was in need? After all he is in control of the checks and the accounts and the subway sandwiches!!! And where was he when they had the banquet? why could he not attend and express some gratitude for all the men and women that make up the Towns co. fire and rescue

I never knew that VOLUNTEERS get checks. interesting....They certainly do deserve respect and recognition, but I am willing to bet that they don't volunteer for the recognition. I'm sure they are doing it to help others. I have some good friends who used to be volunteer fire fighters and I know they do sacrifice a lot to save people they may or may not know.

I myself was a little shocked when my husband was telling me about getting a check at the end of the year, my exact words was " your a volunteer" and then he explained to me why they say volunteer and then receive a check, where we live now they are still volunteer and do not get a check at the end of the year, but they can draw retirement from the volunteer fire dept....it's somewhat interesting. I do agree with you "just me" they do sacrafice alot for people they don't even know and I thank you for your time in reading my post and replying to it. I was just real upset at the fact that we use to live in Towns co. and I was employed by the county then, I was hoping that after some changes and new administration things would have changed a little.
