There's an easy answer to that; take for example, the last election and the candidates running for the slots. Only one had a college degree and somewhat impressive credentials. I don't think he won but no matter - not one of them said anything about any problems that plague the school system, or how the incumbents had failed, or what they would do that was different, better, just general political statements that were meaningless and inoffensive. Call it what it was - pabulum! It is beyond me how these clowns keep getting elected. The above poster is correct, the only way for change to happen is for some good, solid citizens run for board of education and then hope like hades that they get elected. Once elected, they need to bring in a "proven" superintendent and then get out of the way!!
That, my friend, is the only way TC schools will EVER improve!!!!!!
The sad part is that the only way anyone can get elected here isn't because of what they've accomplished in life or what they want to accomplish if elected, or if they can do it, rather how popular they are. They're all afraid of offending someone by suggesting change/improvement and as a result, someone who COULD make a difference hasn't got a chance in hell of getting elected.
The candidates are all spineless, but so is the electorate!
