Public meeting with FEMA and DNR concerning that since 1998 entire Towns has been designated floodplain.

Currently anyone building, buying or refinancing a home is required to purchase flood insurance, in many cases unneeded insurance.

Meeting today, thu. 17th 5:30 - 7:00 @ Towns county courthouse This will be your only chance to have an input on the issue, and view the proposed maps.

That was "quoted" a dramatic email I received within 24 hours of the meeting.

The new requirement is that if you hold a mortgage from most banks, you'd be required to obtain expensive flood insurance - if your home is located within the "flood zone", unfortunately FEMA is going by 100 year old information, so best to keep up with any mistakes they could have made.

http://www.georgiadfirm.com/ has updated information about changes to the floodplain.
