Ex-Newport News police lieutenant will serve one year for sex assault

A former Newport News police lieutenant will serve a year in prison for a sexual assault he committed late last year.

the justice system is a disgrace. i cant believe someone would only get one year for the crimes this man has commited.it makes me so sick to think this man will be on the streets in 1 year with all the other sexual predators.no one is safe.

Another ex-cop gets away with ruining someones life. It started with Randolph Smith. I guess as long as you're an ex-cop, you can get away with anything.

This case was tragic, to be sure, but if you knew the whole story, you would not be so quick to slam the justice system for their handling of this situation. Justice was well-served and Mr. Hendrickson did not "get away" with anything. First, Mr. Hendrickson was not on duty when the offenses occurred and served admirably as a NN police officer. Second, he acknowledged what he did was wrong, but more importantly, has taken positive steps to change himself and to mend the hurt he has caused his family. Third, he will serve a year in jail and will have to register as a sex offender.
