This Sheriff needs to stopping threatening and start leading the departmen. I was a police officer, I know the office is an elected position. But he does not have the power that the sheriff does in US Southern departments. He needs to have intgrity and honor. He has adminstrative process to handle these situations. Making threats is not leadership. We will get his butt voted out of office pulling power trips. Get real and be professional.

Really Sheriff ! You are nothing but a bully !! You should be ashamed of yourself. Now you will be wasting taxpayers money to fight this stupid battle in court. Over what? A dog? I think it is more about your assinine ego. Get back to work and do your job.

If the taxpayers bought the dog, then its simple, the dog stays the property of the dept. and taxpayers. She can purchase it as a pet if so desired, and the dog is no longer a assett to the department, but that would be no different than giving away office supplies to other employees of the countyif she feels the dog should just go home with her.

I have to stand up for the Sheriff. This story is all one-sided. You haven't heard the Sheriff's side yet.

Just because the Deputy retired, does not mean the dog has to retire. Place the dog with a new handler and move on. It works, been there, done that! Now if the dog is to old and not able to do the job, then the retired handler has a chance to take custody. But if dog is able to work, then it needs too, we in Adams county each own part of this dog (equipment).

Hopefully, she will be able to tell the rest of the story. She has lots of knowledge of unprofessional behavior. Why was a Gag order put in place so guickly? Professional? He could not spell it, so don't expect him to know what it means! Bully, threats, intimidation are his management style.

It's hard to make a judgement without knowing both sides of the story BUT I don't think a living creature that has feelings should be made the one to suffer to satisfy others egos. Do what is right for the dog and move on.

Just another reason to get rid of local police. You never hear this bickering with the state cops. They just go out and keep us safe. Thanks state cops.

The Sheriff himself is a legend in his own mind. He does have some very good people in his department but they can't do there job because he is not a leader and never will be. Spend five minutes with him and you will understand.

WTF is wrong with people!! This dog deserves a happy, long retirement with the person that loves him.

The dog was paid for with community donations

The dog has not been used properly since the K9 went in service. There is State Law that says the Sheriffs office can not use the dog for investigtion purposes. It has been the Office pet for a number of years.

Stebbins is the 2nd handler for this dog. Jacob Nelson one of the Sheriffs former side kicks was the original handler. He quit and went to the York County Sheriffs Office.

Under FLSA she is entitled to the comp time, unless there was a prior agreement between her and the county.

Any truth to the story that the Sheriff has already got a second dog to replace the first one..if so why? The Sheriff has done everything BUT his job..to be the administrator of his office. He has a "special deputy/volunteer" to do his job! That way he can play with his dog and ponies.

The article says the dog is now retired, so let the handler keep care of it at her expense for the rest of its life...what's the problem here?

You are aware that this one bad decision on your part could forever label you with the public and like they say...there are some things in life that you can't "Do Over"!

There are a huge amount of animal lovers in this world and they will not forget if you fight for a selfish reason but they also will remember you if you choose to be a stand up nice guy!

I'm amazed that all of you are making judgement with only hearing one side of the story!!!(Kristen's) Poket was never retired - unless she did that on her own!! This Sheriff has done more for the Department than anyone ever has - and the voters of this county like what he is doing - so say what you want but there is a reason he was re-elected over competition!!1
I'm sure there is much more to this story that will come out - I think there are some facts about this Deputy that will tell the rest of the story!!! And why should she keep "property of the people" who donated money for it just because it has become a family pet?? She should pay for it!!

REALLY???? Sounds like you are a little too close to her for comfort!! She seems to be going to great lengths to keep a dog that really doesn't belong to her. Seems she is the one who filed the injunction instead of trying to work things out within the county!! Have to wonder why???
