There was a very nice toy store on Huguenot St in the `1940s. Is there a way to find its name>

Could have been "DARLING" toy store?

Miriam: As one born and bred in NR (now an octogenarian) I do not recall a toy store on Huguenot St. at any time. The closest possibility is at one time and for many years thereafter, there was a bicycle store on that street run by an Al Lasus and bearing that name. Perhaps he also had some toys available along with the bikes but I'm not sure. He later closed that location and relocated the shop to the west side of North Av., just steps away from Lincoln (formerly "Winyah") Av. which subsequently closed after the owner's passing.

Maybe it was Al Lasus. Certainly, the name is familiar. My mother bought a doll for me before I went to the hospital to have my tonsils out.ai know the store was on Huguenot St. P.S. I always thought it was bizarre that Lincoln Ave ran through the African American area and that Lincoln School had a mainly African American student body. Thanks for you info.
