Two arrested after heroin bust

Two people were arrested after a man fled from Avoca police during a traffic stop Thursday, leading to the discovery of 119 bags of heroin at his apartment, police said.

COST OF DRUG PROHIBITION:

1. Enforcement (in the hundreds of millions)
2. Legal (court time, legal process)
3. Imprisonment (taxpayer dollars)
4. Keeping Mexican Drug Cartels in business (which results in two other costs:(1) Lives of 10-year old children who are enslaved to work on pot farms and (2) border security problems)

COST OF DECRIMINALIZATION:

Decline in drug use.
Increase in revenues through taxation.

Please refer to case studies in the Netherlands and Spain where decriminalization already took place. When drugs became legal and accessible by anyone, drug use actually fell by 13% especially amongst young adults and teenagers.
