Jan 5, 2009 Full story: International Herald Tribune 8

Amalia Dominguez was 18 and desperate and knew exactly what to ask for at the small, family-run pharmacy in the heart of Washington Heights, the thriving Dominican enclave in northern Manhattan.

It is really sad that women feel they have to go through this alone -- not to mention the danger involved. While many protesters claim they aren't harming women, this article states otherwise.

Disturbing, and interesting.

Their men don't even want them to suggest condoms because they'll somehow think that the women are implying that the men are cheating.

These are the stories the PL ignore or don't get. Here abortion is legal yet this happens, without the benefit of a medical professional.

Scary.

And then you get the folks who claim that sex ed is being taught "adequately" and don't see that it's not just education -- it is an attitudinal shift that needs to occur as well. Unfortunately, there is a lot of trouble in the hispanic community when it comes to the equality of women. This is but one example.

I agree -- and sad. Have you read about the women in Latin America who have died because it is against the law to abort an ectopic pregnancy?

Yes. I often find myself linking people to that, to drive the point home that doctors are unwilling to take on risky pregnancies out of fear of being charged with murder, let alone ectopic pregnancies where fetal death is virtually a given.

Can you *imagine* the agony these women go through??

I've used Cytotec from http://c-misoprostol.info twice in the privacy of my own home, no one even knew but me and my sister. No one ever knew that I was even pregnant. The drug cost $80 on the internet, no prescription needed. No side effects either time and both were complete abortions. I passed the fetus within hours of incerting the pills. This method is used in third world countries all of the time where abortion is illegal. I personally believe this method should be recognized as a legal abortion method here. It was less tramatic and painless.

Been in those shoes, although the shoe salesmen are a bit more forgiving here.

:)

In 1996, following an exam for a backache in the ER at Modesto City Hospital, I got the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
Right after I was informed that the survival rate for ectopic pregnancy was 0.008% of AMERICAN women who elect to gestate that pregnancy, I was informed that it was MY DECISION whether or not to 'remain pregnant'.

Took me about 20 minutes to decide that my life was more important to me than martyrdom.

Go figure.

Something tells me I did the right thing - maybe it's the SONS I SUBSEQUENTLY GAVE BIRTH TO.

Just a thought.

If I was to get that same diagnosis today, I'd make the SAME CHOICE.

And I'm not sorry, either.

If you'd like, there is an outlet for your story.

I was 8.5 weeks pregnant when a sonogram revealed my baby died, had no heartbeat and quit growing at 6.5 weeks. I had a missed miscarriage. This was prescribed to me, and I read all the reviews on here before using it from EXTRAMEDRX . COM because I was terrified I would have a lot of pain. I can tell you - I had no pain using this drug. I was prescribed hydrocodone which I took 45 min prior to taking this drug orally; then another dose of Cytotec (miso...) two hours later. I am now not even on pain meds and I feel fine, am in day two of using this. If I ever have to go through a miscarriage again I will definitely go this route, not a D&C, to save $$$. Painless, and useful. Good luck and hope this review helps.
