I am very interested in buying a condo in Parkchester, north or south, preferably south. Would be my first condo...what's the best first step to take to get the process rolling?

I lived in a one bedroom in Parkchester on the North Side. Pros: grounds clean and well kept; building clean and quiet; rent reasonable;laundromat close by - also clean and well kept; stores close by; near Cross Bronx and Bruckner Expressway. Cons: small rooms; the public transportation left a lot to be desired; horrible parking; Metropolitan Oval/Westchester Ave. traffic a nightmare; poor choice in supermarkets; did not like stores in area (Parkchester Macy's is a dump; no central air. Not a bad neighborhood, just not the one for me.

yes The rooms are larger in 2 or 3 bedroom units, some 1 and 2 bdrm units have smaller rooms depending on where they are located in the building... People need to keep that in mind and see a few apartments before they choose one. Those units would not be suitable for too much furniture or clothing storage. There are many supermarkets to choose from in the area and traffic is far from horrific. Parking leaves alot to be desired but this is not a car-port. We are located near express buses and subway. It should be a great summer here in Parkchester, join us at the Oval on weekends and mid-week evenings!

Alana wrote: I am planning to buy a 2BR Metro Ave. South side condo. Is this a safe and good place to live? I have been living in Queens for almost 10 years. For a change, i am thinking of living in the Bronx. Is the south side is safe especially late at night coming home from work? yes please check out the improved lighting and become familiar with the services Parkchester Security provides for residents and visitors

I resided in Parkchester on Tremont Ave(across from the Sizzler) When I moved there in late 2000, the area was decent. As the years went on there were several plumbing problems where the walls had to be completely gutted and replastered. Following these episodes, the roaches came and were were abundant. The area is relatively safe, but on occasion there is a robbery or mugging like anywhere in the city. Parking is first come first serve. The good thing about the North is that parking is avaible on the side streets. (Sometimes it's a walk) It is a decent area to live in the Bronx and I hate the Bronx being from Brooklyn.

Christina wrote: i live in parkchester and I love it. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I purchased a 2 bedroom condo in 2005 for less than $125,000 and it is a great investment. My mortgage and condominium charges are less than what I used to pay in rent for a 2 bedroom apt in harlem. Don't be silly. People used to say that harlem is bad and look at how people moved in cheap attracted different businesses and now property values are ridiculous. Same thing with brooklyn. I am on a committee that assists in governing parkchester as well as a member of the community board. I am working to make Bronx the next harlem but better. Don't get left behind when the condos start to hit the $1M mark :) Which committee would that be? and how can I get on it? I am currently getting investors along with my own funds, to purchase numerous properties in parkchester 5-10, or possibly more depending on the funds I can get; After doing extensive research via internet, and going through parkchester on a daily basis (my girlfriend lives there, I currently live in Throggs Neck) I find that security, amongst another things must be improved in order to attract a "better" class of people, Any race, any age, but better people than there is there now, not all but some. I know the have a governing board but when does the board vote? who gets to vote on the board? etc. I can be reached at FinanceExec2410@hotmail.com Thank you.

queenmia wrote: I'm interested in parkchester south condo's anyone have any info. thank you PARKCHESTER APTS HAVE DUPLICATE COMMUNITIES IN HARLEM AND ON 23RD ST./1ST AVE. THE APTS ARE GREAT-ALOT OF SPACE AND WELL THOUGHT OUT. THE APTS IN THE SOUTH CONDO HAVE BETTER MAINTENACE/MANAGEMENT. ITS EASY TO GET LOST WHEN VISITING SINCE THERE ARE MANY BUILDINGS NOT ON STREET SIDE. TRY NOT TO GET APT FACING PARKING LOT. I FIND AREA NEAR STARLING EASIER FOR PARKING. GREAT STARTER PROPERTY SINCE YOU CAN TRANSITION AND KEEP APT AND RENT IT. I WENT TO COLLEGE/GRAD SCHOOL AND MOVED OUT OF CITY BUT STILL RENT APT.
