The Pena Family was my neighbor while growing up in small town Cuero, Texas in the '60s and '70s. The sons of the Pena family were at least five to ten years older than me, but my older brothers referred to them as Chacho, Chico and Gustavo. I always believed the younger of the trio, Gustavo, was named for Mr. Gus, an immidiate neighbor of Joe Pena, who I belived to be Joe's brother. I never confirmed it but it seemed right to a ten year old.
My playmates and I always respected "Big Daddy O Joe, who was one of few men who would patiently iteract with us inquisitive kids. I actually liked how he bought property behind his residence when it became available. This move intrigued me as a youngster. I watched as he enhanced the property to create a back driveway to his home.
To make a good long story short, Joe Pena was a very great neighbor.
