The Village of Mastic Beach is once again proposing draconian changes to the State Fire Codes which center around the creation of an Office of Fire Marshal which comes complete with ARMED Fire Marshals whose dual duty will be that of “Peace Officer”.
The Fire Marshal shall not only choose as many officers as he deems necessary to help him in his duties as peace officer but can change and alter these new codes however he sees fit.
The new Office of Fire Marshal will basically be able to close or harass any business into submission or closure. They can come onto your property and fine you for the storage of just about anything they consider flammable. But please, read all 74 pages of the changes and see for yourself

Here is what you need to do right now to defeat the creation of an armed goon squad pretending to be Fire Marshals. You must write an email to the following agent
michael.auerbach@dos.ny.gov.
Here is a sample you may use;

Sirs/Madams,

I live in the Village of Mastic Beach. I am writing you this letter in response to the new proposals to the Fire Code as presented by the Village of Mastic Beach. I wish to state my opposition to the changes and the creation of an Office of Fire Marshal in the Village of Mastic Beach. The proposal gives the Chief Fire Marshal far to many discretionary and budgetary powers. Our village has had multiple instances of abuse by our Code Enforcement and our Building Department already.

The village is has been filed a Notice of Claim by the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association and the Suffolk County District Attorney is still investigating them. This is all from a village government that is less than three years old.

I respectfully request you deny the new changes marked local laws #3, 4 & 5 on your agenda.

Thank you for your time.

Go ahead and hate on Bruce. Shows you're level of maturity. How about the subject at hand? Do you want fire marshal's acting like a police force?

Alarmism, exaggeration or just blatant misinformation. All MBV is doing is asking the state to allow MBV fire code to conform EXACTLY to what is already being followed by the rest of Brookhaven Town.

The idea that this will spawn an armed posse to mete out vigilante justice is so absurd, one needs to wonder the source of this lunacy.

Agreed but not. if the Fire Marshal wants protection while investigating then let Suffolk county provide a it. Really I would like to see whom ever it is go through the SCPD academy to see if they are worthy.

im sure he does. Who do you think they will "deputies"? Zany running around with a license to go onto your property and in your home without a warrant "looking" for "fire violations".

MB already HAS a fire marshal. We don't need one that can carry a gun. Or can deputies 20 people if they want. And if you actually read their proposal, you would see it states that they will also be used as "peace officers". I don't know what you think that means, but in the hands of this village administration, it means MBV police! And that's exactly how they will use it. If you haven't noticed, the trustees aren't exactly honest with anyone or open enough to tell the truth.

any excuse to wield firearms is always in the village govment agenda.
Resident Walter Meshenberg stated that he thought a Code Enforcement officer was carrying a sidearm during the hurricane, and if true, would village be liable. Trustee Stiriz replied that during the hurricane, it was necessary to deputize two Code Enforcement officers and authorize them to carry sidearms, and that both officers met all qualifications for same.
9/13/2011, its in the minutes.

During a declared state of emergency and a mandatory evacuation, you are complaining that the village tried to protect what was still there? I hope the bar was protected during the hurricane.

Funny thing is. I didn't hear of one incident where our armed CE guys caught someone looting. Yet there was looting going on. Exactly where were they posted. In front of the mayor and trustee's houses. Crooks protecting the crooks.

Tim B will declare fire marshal law and forbid mastoids from walking the streets after curfew.
