Hi - I've been hearing recently about a lot of break-ins in the Smith Point/Shirley. I thought it might be constructive if we had a post dedicated just to this so that we can share info on where the break-ins are happening, what actions are being taken, and what we need to be aware of. I heard of a break-in on Lombardi. Where else have they happened?

I live in Smith Point area by the canals, and I am concerned.

Thanks,
Mike

Two of my cars were rifled through right on my driveway on Sat. Jan 30th. some time in the middle of the night. Thank goodness my new car was locked. Nothing was taken, I don't leave anything of value in my cars anymore. I live in St. George Terrace. Alot of strangers walking around the area lately. It is getting scarey...right in my own driveway, I think that shows how brazen these people are.

Even though I am not well liked by most on these threads, I always try to answer any ligit question. I checked this website and found there were 4 pages of INCIDENTS in 11967. ARRESTS were about the usual number.

Try it.

Maybe you should read what the said (Shirley/Smith Point) is where they stated there seemed to be a rash of crimes.

During the same periods of time, 01/02/2014 to 01/15/2014, the following number of incidents and arrests were reported by SCPD:

Shirley
Incidents ---- 50
Arrests ------ 47

Mastic Beach
Incidents ---- 26
Arrests ------ 15

So, are you still laughing?

so crim has gone up in MB since the village was formed. Look at that, they didn't make it a utopia like the MBVEC promised.

Yeah, yeah, you'll make some comment about how it's a POLICE problem, not a VILLAGE problem. But with us spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for a gang of code enforcers who patrol regularly, one would think crime would go down.

Is that what your take is on my reply yo the poster of this topic? I didn't make this up, but it looks like MBV has less crime than Shirley which is adjacent and has both a larger population and larger land area.

Why do you have to jump on my responses and throw in your anti-village attitude? I never was convicted of taking a bribe...can you say the same thing?

It appears that foreclosed / abandoned homes are attracting this element as well. Multiple homes within a 4 block radius from where I live have been reported with crack heads living in these homes, and selling drugs as well from these homes - when they're finally removed, they end up gutting the homes of all copper piping and anything else of value they can sell.

I've put motion sensors around my home, and a satellite based security system, with motion sensors and glass breakage sensors. Thieves don't like either of these on a home they may be targeting, so my advise would be to install both, and keep your cars in your driveway under the motion sensor.

I've also installed a video surveillance system that records on a 2 week loop directly to DVD - I've not had any problems.
