Yaphank resident

For ten years, the residents of yaphank have been forced to live with the horrible dust, odors, and flying litter coming from the Long Island compost site. We have asked both the Town of Brookhaven and the DEC, numerous times, to help stop these problems, that are impacting our health, our quality of life, and the enjoyment of our properties.
Both the Town and the DEC, has issued the Long Island compost numerous violations, in the past. and as of yet, still nothing has been done to solve these problems. I would like to Thank Leg. Kate Browning, for listening to our problems, and for helping us, by getting the approval for a two year health air quality study. This study has proved, what we were saying all along, it is effecting our health.
We have been to numerous Town council meetings pleading for help, but it seems the town has chosen to ignore our problems. Instead, of helping us, the Town has rewarded this company with the towns yard waste contract for ten years in a row. The Town now sends 32,000 tons of yardwaste, to the Long Island compost, and plans to send all 40,000 tons of it there in 2010.
When will the Town of Brookhaven actually care about the residents it represents. This is a major health issue, that the Town has choosen to ignore. Instead of helping us. The Town, keeps sending more and more yard waste there, which makes them the biggest contributor to the problems being caused by this company. When will the DEC, actually take some real action, and enforce its codes, and force this company into compliance?
Enough is enough, something needs to be done now.
