Wow, I didn't know it made it's way all the way to Flordia!

That's amazing.

He's doing well now.

He looks nothing like those pictures.

Well, here again I am to this site.

I seldom do this anymore, but I enjoy Googling "Devon Rivers coma" to see how much of his story is still posted on the web.

It just so happens to be that I already posted on this one.

Well, for those who are wondering:

Devon still has some neurological issues, mostly dealing with emotions and reasoning...

All of his brain damage is to a small area of the brain that controls that.

But other than that, he lives his life day to day.
He's a great kid, always eager to help EVERYONE.

He's healthy, and certainly growing.

He participates in school, Boy Scouts of America, and other church and school activities. He wishes he could play sports and ride dirt bikes, but at the same time he accepts pretty gracefully that he can't.

He is still undergoing a lot of therapy, and is still improving, he hasn't yet plateaued or anything.

It's amazing how a doctor told us the likelihood of him waking up was the same as an amputee regenerating a limb, and here he is, alive and well.

Shaila, thanks for posting the updates on your brother Devon Rivers.

I wish you, your family, and the doctors continued success in getting Devon back on a dirt bike and into school again.

We all take life for granted and should count our blessings daily.

Hi Shaila. I also find myself googling "devon rivers coma" on occasion to see how he is doing. I have actually continued to think of him quite often after caring for him early on in his hospital stay, and getting to know him just before his coma. I am so happy for his continued recovery. Not sure if they would still remember, but please tell Devon and your parents that Devon's favorite nurse (one of many, I'm sure:)) says hello!

Hi Troy,

Just checking on this, I'm quite humbled that in 2012, you posted to this thread. Devon -- is beyond amazing and I cannot even express the gratitude that we still regularly feel from this experience and everyone that keeps in touch. He is approaching high school graduation (modified diploma, but still amazing!) and is one heck of an artist and mechanic. He knows his cars, motorcycles and small things like lawn mowers front to back and all the way throughout. He has an outstanding eye for perspective and his art is highly advanced for even a normally functioning 18 year old. He can hold conversations and, at first, you'd never know anything was wrong with him. He is on a motorcycle all the time and enjoys mountain biking and time with my youngest brother. He's a work horse, to say the least, and is so willing to go out of his way to help others.

Love him dearly, thanks for checking in and thanks for tending to him back in those more stressful days!

Kind Regards,

Shaila
