Yakima, Wash.(May 3, 2012)- As college graduates head into the working world, using a smartphone can help them maximize their job search and respond to potential employers in a timely manner. U.S. Cellular has a lineup of 3G and 4G LTE Samsung smartphones that provide the ability to research, respond and react to job leads at any time to help job seekers land their first job or new career opportunity.
“College graduates can get a cutting-edge smartphone to help them organize their job search and communicate quickly with prospective employers no matter where they are,” said Joe Cabrera, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Washington and Oregon.“It’s valuable for college graduates to have a wireless device they can rely on to help simplify the process and not miss out on good employment opportunities.”
From now through May 31, the Galaxy S Aviator is being offered at $99.99. With the addition of 4G LTE speeds in the second half of 2012 in the Yakima area, customers will enjoy faster web browsing and speedy app downloads with access to 4G LTE speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and similar to a cable Internet connection.
Here are some tips U.S. Cellular recommends for leveraging your smartphone to help you land a job:
• Apply Now – Indeed.com allows job seekers to search for millions of jobs from thousands of job sites from your smartphone. In addition, graduates can build connections, join groups related to their industry and apply for jobs directly through the LinkedIn website. Android-powered devices have access to nearly half a million apps available through Google Play, formerly known as the Android Market. The Monster Job Search app makes it easy to keep up with the latest job opportunities when you are on the go. HireADroid helps candidates find their dream job worldwide using multiple job search engines. CareerBuilder’s Jobs app allows job seekers to search the nation’s largest online job site.
• Can We Talk?– If job seekers want to be readily accessible when a prospective employer calls, they should list their cell phone number as a primary source of contact. That said, job seekers should be ready to answer calls from a hiring manager or human resources associate if they are at the store or out with friends. If your cell phone rings and it’s not a good time to talk, just let the call go to your voicemail and return the call as soon as possible.
• Google Docs – Google Docs is a web-based word processing application that allows job hunters to upload their resume and cover letter templates to Google Docs from their home computer. Then, with Google Docs for Mobile, users can view and edit the same documents on-the-go from their smartphone.
• Instant Interaction – Employers are interacting with job candidates more frequently through email. Smartphones provide on-the-go email access and allow users to receive, respond to and compose messages instantly. In addition, job seekers can download employment applications and get access to large databases of job listings, giving them the advantage of finding and applying for coveted opportunities faster.
