The answer is simple: every time I hear "axe" instead of "ask", or "sho" instead of "sure", it's a bare ass spanking in front of the class.
Have you ever watched the 2006 movie, "Idiocracy"? Without a doubt, American society is headed full-bore toward idiocracy! Sadly, it's common and routine to see students from virtually all ilks graduate from high school, only to attempt to enter the work force as functional illiterates.

Then of course, there are lots of public school districts that display banners on their brick walls which read "Excellence in Education". These superintendents like to proudly tout the high G.P.A. averages of their district's students. What's "the rest of the story" that's almost never heard? Public school administrators / teachers commonly try to cover their ineptitude by factoring homework assignments & extra credit work into students' GPAs. So, your Brendon or Kaylee could have graduated with a 4.0 GPA, but amazingly, they could have done this while blowing a lot of tests. This is why so many grads are forced to take DEV classes before they're allowed to begin their college major.

Some dumb young coworkers were pests, one laughing and telling me that his grandma also read "Reader's Digest"; a famous old magazine that has been one of the best, even with the drawings and pictures and cartoons that could be understood my loons.
