Right to Life aims to be seen at polls

Jul 21, 2007 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Dayton Daily News

“Ultimately our goal is to make sure our voters are comfortable at the polling place.”

Dayton Right to Life is recruiting people to work the polls on Election Day, telling them they'll be allowed to wear shirts bearing the anti-abortion group's name and asking them to donate the $95 the county ... via Dayton Daily News

What next? KKK logos in black precincts? Swastika logos in Jewish precincts?
I see this as a voter suppression issue.
I would be uncomfortable with a poll workers emblazoned with logo of an organization dedicated to removing women's rights.
Voters already fear crooked politics messing with counting their choices for candidates. They know you can't have candidate signs within 100 feet.
Forced pregnancy groups advocate creating laws to invade my womb, to remove my right to possession of my own body. They can't do it without voting in stupid laws. It IS a voting issue and their logo is electioneering. Even if that issue is not on the ballot this cycle, which the article does not make clear.
Shouldn't have to run a gauntlet of anti-female zealots to get to vote. Women have had full voting rights less than 100 years. Are we really so scary we must be threatened while we do it? These fanatics are just plain RUDE.

I agree & it seems like the "pre lifers" as I call them are getting more desperate because they know that there's a good chance that, come 08 a christian rightwing pandering politician WON'T be occupying the whitehouse for them to manipulate & control & that just plain scares them to no end.

I asked my husband about this, he's worked voting polls before and if it's on the venue, RTL nothing can be within 300 ft of the polls. It's a pure violation of voters rights and poll workers especially are never allowed to advertise, or display political banners, hats, shirts, buttons, handouts, notta.

Sorry, I typed feet instead of yards. Haven't been able to work polls since my back injury.
What gets me is these fanatics about making rules for other people are so unwilling to follow rules themselves.
Polls must be neutral. Can't imagine what the lady who approved this was thinking.
I suppose I shouldn't be shocked by tactics when the goal is to steal control of our bodies, when terrorism is okay to them at women's health centers. Bullies are bullies are bullies. Sad they don't put their energy into a good cause.

Well ya know, it doesn't say a whole lot about the PLM when they have to violate rights in an attempt to violate more rights lol.

I honestly don't either unless she is PL herself. Hopefully the voters in Ohio will make a big deal, and a big stink about this, because it is a violation of a voters right not to be intimidated.

INTIMIDATION OF VOTERS
No Electioneering
a. No soliciting votes or placing campaign signs
withing 100 ft. of polls
b. No photographing or videotaping voters
entering or exiting a polling place.

Not even voters are allowed to wear t-shirts or buttons promoting a candidate or ballot measure.

Nope. They live at the head of DeNILE. They expect a special exemption for being such goody two shoes. Or they actually don't recognize manipulation by male preachers and male spouses who profit from submissives. It seems they actually believe it is just about being supermommy. No clue to really evil intent behind the lies.

Thanks for the info, I wondered about this the last time I went to vote and there were people outside the building trying to talk to me about their candidate.

My opinion-NO ONE manning the polls should be allowed to voice/desplay/promote their opinions about what's on the ballot.

I agree. I was attending a Baptist Church up until about 6 months ago. In the church, during a business meeting, women are expected to attend, but they cannot speak. If they have an idea, it has to be brought before the Deacon or her spouse first before the meeting takes place.
Truth is and alot of people don't believe it, but if all women stayed home to care for the family and chores and was payed to do it for even minimum wage, it would bankrupt this country. Unless your man is making 50,000 a year and you have little or no money being payed out to creditors, a family in this day and age you're barely making ends meet on that one income. The average american is either 1 or 2 paychecks away from being homeless. Ya know that's a horrible way to live your life.......in constant worry. No wonder heart disease is the #1 killer among women.

Sad indeed.

Instead of forcing more unplanned/unwanted children into the world they should actually go out & HELP the ones who are already here. Then again,by forcing more unwanted children into the world it is these children who will grow up bitter & resentful of the world around them thus making PERFECT future recruits for their movement of hate, intolerance & religious oppression.

I thought you would be! LOL My brother works the polls for every election and he also agrees. The pole workers need to be neutural (is that spelled right?). There are times when arguements break out between voters and the pole workers need to defuse the situation, the best way for this to happen is if they (the voters) have no idea what the poll workers political stance is. Another issue, of course, is the fact that you really should know how you're going to vote before you get to the polls-there is a time and a place for political debates, the voting booth is neither.

They were very clear about that in poll worker training last time I went. Should be that way everywhere. If we ever stop believing our votes count, the alternative might be revolution. If we can't make democracy work, none will.
My mom was first generation of female voters!!! She was lucky, she said, that she could "own property" in our state. Some women still couldn't. Dad travelled to work and she invested it carefully for our college and their retirement. In those years before fax etc., she could not have waited for him to have to sign for her.
Maybe that, now that I think about it, is why I sometimes get a bit rabid about preserving every single inch of freedom and choice we have, even if I don't need to use it myself. If we give an inch, women around the world can lose by a yard. We are our sister's keepers. Darn, now I sound like a feminist. But, I want equal rights for men too. End the sex based stereotypes of not crying or cooking or whatever, and we might not have them starting wars to feel "manly."

So far for him just arguements but who knows how far these people would go without someone to calm them down.

Well I'm sure if the voters can't get it stopped the ACLU will be all over this. They've had to intervene many times for voters rights at the polls.

What? You're not a fan of the ACLU? Sue they defend the very core of our civil rights such as separation of church and state, freedom of speech, the right to choose, and equal rights for all citizens.

Let me ask you a few question if I may.

First I want to preface this by saying that I have no predudice against any ethnic group.

We have a United Negro College Fund, right? What o you think the ACLU would do if someone would start a United Caucasion College Fund, you know one that was only for whites? I would bet that the ACLU would be all over that one.

There are scholarships specifically for gays-would the ACLU allow scholarships only for straights?

Business have to have a quota of minorities-do they have to have a certain quota of whites?

They don't have to fight for the rights of whites or heteros to get a scholarship, they were getting them long before AA or gays did.
There just isn't a need for a UCCF or a UHCF. Frankly I didn't know a gay college fund existed......why is it necessary is the question? Are college applications and student loan apps, now asking about sexual orientation?
I understand where you're coming from Sue, but racism is still very real in this day. I guess to answer your question, Yes the ACLU probably would be all over it, but what would the motivation be to start a college fund just for whites these days?

But, flop, there is a group in place for insuring that white, het males get all of the American good life they can steal - it's called the Republican party. Just ask Cheney or Haliburton, or the shrub - think he'd have gotten through Yale without "help"? Not hardly.
