Is this another help us help you plea for increased taxes?
http://wwwdaytondailynews.com/news/news/local...
The career Center is swimming in money now. They have $22,000 per pupil now. They have less than 900 pupils. They are accumulating about one million $ per year. They want to renovate so, they asked all faculty, staff and BOE the questions. " If money were no issue, what would you like to see added or renovated in this career center?" They put everyone’s wish list into a plan and it added up to $46 million, they then quadrupled this to make a 3 mill levy then added a .5 mill safety factor. If this fails they are able to come back and say we reduced it to 3 or 2.5 or 2 and still raise the amount they needed times three to build a enormous facility for 900 junior and senior high school students. What they have also done is to make an adult ed center that is partially paid for by taxpayers. Now Sinclair and any other adult ed center cannot compete with the career center prices because you the taxpayer are supplementing the adult ed at the Career Center. The adult ed part of the careert center is supose to be self funded but did you know you pay for its admin, its facitity, some of its faculty and supplies. So the adult ed is not only supplemented by tax dollars it is also accumulating money in an account we do not get to see.
Everyone should ask them for their five year forecast and you will see an accumulating balance. The five year forecast shows a $15 million surplus, when the whole annual budget is only $14 million, they have a whole years worth of surplus and thye wnat more. Lets talk insanity. Why is 15 million surplus not enough to renovate?

Remember way back yonder in time when our school district leaders whined that they had no money to purchase curriculum needed to ensure students success in the classroom? Wasn't that during the same time that our administrative staff was fattened up with increased employment and big raises, while a quarter million dollars worth of textbooks sat in shipping crates and never came out of the supply closet?
Isn't the same thing happening now under the leadership of board president and vice president, Charles Anderson and Ron Malone? Although our school superintendent is now telling parents that the BYOT is not mandated; isn't it just a matter of time until fear (false evidence appearing real) is projected into the community that students who do not have their own laptops may be at a slight disadvantage to benefit from the e-books; and that to ensure every student "success in the classroom" it is the responsibility of the Taxpayers to pass the levies needed to ensure a "quality classroom education" for every child?
IF "according to Malone-logic, laptops would effectively become one more extention of whatever the teacher wants," making laptops mandatory could very well get those teachers what they really really want and that's what the Many Voices Project is all about--presenting false evidence appearing real to the community projecting "unmet needs" in the students classroom education, emotionally manipulating parents to get out there and put the pressure on the voters to "pass the next increased taxation levy the first time" for the sake of safety for our children!
After all, if all the kids have their own laptops, then none of the kids will have to carry around those heavily padded backpacks, and who knows what might be inside those backpacks that could be
"unsafe?"
Are you telling us that when 5 levies were thrust on us an our children were shoved into large classrooms, canceled fall ield trips, enormous pay to play fees, all of this needlessly, that they had textbooks already purchased just sitting in Central office but did not give them to the studnts just to further dupe us into believing they had a textbook emergency and we had to fork over more money to get these textbooks? These "people" told us they could no longer afford textbooks and the ones they had were falling apart. All that time the "textbooks" were in boxes in Central Office. These people are evil and corrupt. It sickens me that we actually badgered and rallied against the only person to protect our kids and she left us. It is our fault for letting the housewives of Springboro beat her up. These anti Christian, anti American bullies are still here and she is gone. Our kids are unprotected now. Liars! Look, these evil levy promoters now have important roles in our district. Look at the make up of any district committee and you will see the NFSS liars dominating all of them. No way do they get my kids, I am investigating alternatives.

School Choice is the way to go!

If you care about the future of America's freedom, then you will find a way to educate your child outside the public schools holding your child's minds captive to union solidarity above all things!
Although our union controlled MSA majority board members were sworn into elected office to uphold the United States Constitution, it is now proven by 3-2 board room votes that Charles Anderson, Ron Malone and David Stuckey swear by the union solidarity indoctrination of the
Ohio School Boards Association.

I think all unions should be decertified and all children should be given a voucher to chose the school of their choice. Let parents decide how to spend their education dollars. If parents decided then this out of control, out of touch education indoctrination system would have to be shut down because there would never be the $8,000 raises for the most loyal soldiers to the admin., that money would be used to actually teach students. Students in a competitive system would benefit from one school after another that wants their business, shows success and is using the taxpayer dollars to educate not fill adult pockets. Teachers would regain a respected profession. I don't tell anyone I am a teacher anymore.
Ohio charter schools are not doing so well. Taxpayer dollars are being used to fill the pockets of adults in the charter school scheme/free market system, and the kids are the one's to suffer. If you decide on an Ohio charter school, you should transfer soon, because the average life of a charter school is 4 years:

"Since 2011, when DeWine moved into office, his staff has been charged with the task of collecting $30 million from failed charter schools. It has collected a little more than $422,000.
Nearly $30.5 million in tax money is still uncollected...$1.4 billion has been spent since 2005 through school year 2012-2013 on charter schools that have never gotten any higher grade than an F or a D."

http://www.nbc4i.com/story/24778722/nbc4-inve...

And:

"Fed up with persistently poor student results in Ohio’s eight largest urban school districts, Republican state legislators enacted a law in 1997 allowing charter schools to locate exclusively within the boundaries of the “Big 8” systems...Since the inception of charters, legislators have expanded them from the Big 8 into other low-performing districts in 37 counties, but most still serve urban students in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Youngstown, Akron and Canton. Eighty-eight percent of the Big 8-run district schools ranked D or F in meeting standards, meaning more than 160,000 students attend low-performing schools."

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local...

And:

"A handful of large corporate charter school operators appear to be responsible for wide swaths of the problem. Meals were not served at regular times and often were purchased at fast food restaurants,” Richard Ross, Ohio’s state school superintendent, noted in an announcement closing the schools. There are reports of several significant fights, thefts and property damage.… They did not ensure the safety of the students, they did not adequately feed the students, they did not accurately track the students and they were not educating the students well. It is unacceptable and intolerable that a sponsor and school would do such a poor job. It is an educational travesty.”
The North Central Ohio Educational Service Center also sponsored 21 other community schools in Ohio. In 2013, the firm attempted to open 16 community schools, including six schools that failed to open or closed within a few weeks of opening. Four more NCOESC schools should never have opened, according to Ross, as they were closed or not renewed by other sponsors. At least four schools are suffering from fiscal problems.
Several of the firm’s schools owe Ohio money for funding received based on inflated enrollment estimates, the release said. Since 1997, 29 percent of Ohio’s charter schools have closed, the Dispatch reported. The median life of an Ohio charter school is four years.

YES!!! Let your child's mind be controlled by the greedy people whose fortunes are made on the back of a population of people who give them money and use taxpayer money for charter schools only to close their doors within 4 years without returning the money to the people, the taxpayers and shutting the doors on our children. All while chasing the ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR!

EXCELLENT SUGGESTION. You must feel very proficient......

Why do so many so-called conservatives have so much against teachers and school officials who are seemingly succeeding in doing what capitalism is all about. Making (taking) as much money as possible and keeping it for themselves.

Not nearly as proud as the 5-8 people who post with a majority on this board the minority view of the city as proven by the last election.

So now you want our teachers to be the 'status quo' when it comes to everything except what the results of our students test scores are, in that they must not be the 'status quo' because they need to be 'above proficient'?

Once again, conservatives stand for free-market, make all you can mentality. What is wrong with a person in any occupation striving to make the most they can by doing the least they can from a capitalist point of view?

Answer that and stay fashionable :)

Is the big business of the Springboro Education Association of Professional Educators really about telling the "truth?"

Totally agree that these are serious concerns; unfortunately, our public schools with union teachers in every child's classroom are not immune to the same concerns; and all school leaders should be held accountability for their misuse of taxpayers money and resources.

However, our own Springboro school children are suffering academically because they are not getting the quality classroom education that our local Taxpayers are generously financially supporting; and that's why parents and community members just have to keep asking questions about how this common core implementation is going to improve standards by which both our teachers and our students aspire for a brighter future.

And while our school superintendent and administrative staff are investing so much of their highly paid time and expertise in conducting a series of levy promotion meetings, the very important contract agreement between the SEA and the Board made during last year negotiations to
work together to set up this teacher evaluation/merit pay increases, is being ignored by our
school superintendent; and our administrative staff is now bloated heavily with new hires; and our living within budget means "Vision" is blinded with big supplemental contracts to our already highly paid school Administrators. Who is representing the children's first best interest in putting at risk our financial stability; ignoring fiscal responsibility?

Grading the Teachers: Little Connection Between Teacher Pay and Performance
June 17, 2013/6:15 AM
By Molly Bloom and Patrick O'Donnell
4 comments-email
Lynn ISCHAY/The Plain Dealer

"There is little connection between how much money Ohio teachers make and how much knowledge they impart to students over the course of a single year, according to a StateImpact
Ohio/Plain Dealer analysis of a new measure of teacher performance.
Ohio/Plain Dealer analysis of a new measure of teacher performance.
In fact, that analysis of state data shows that within many school districts, teachers who received the lowest grade in a key aspect of teacher performance known as value-added are paid more on average than teachers who earned the highest grade.
In some ways, these results are no surprise: The way Ohio schools determine teachers' salaries has nothing to do with how well they teach. It has everything to do with how long they've been teaching and whether they have a master's degree.
But the StateImpact/Plain Dealer analysis quantifies the relationship between value-added and Ohio teachers' pay. It also shows that older teachers in Ohio are paid significantly more than their younger colleagues, but did not outperform them in the 2011-12 school year on value-added."
Perhaps we should begin looking at actual performance rather than longevity in a system which precludes firing.
Identifying, compensating, and retaining talented younger teachers will benefit our children much more than over compensating less skilled professionals that whose main claim to fame is length of service.
Our current system of pay discriminates against younger, less compensated employees in favor of older employees with more years of service. Any contract let will by necessity find that the majority of money available of increases is absorbed percentage wise by those making the most, typically those with the greatest number of years of service.
So while if everyone gets a 5% increase, those at the bottom of the pay scale find themselves with less than half the amount of money as those at the top of the pay scales, regardless of performance or ability.
It has become the time to rectify this situation and recognize talent where ever it is in our school system and reward it appropriately.
