Well, it's very clear to me that bin Laden ordered 19 Arab Muslims to perpetrate 911. Apparently you and the Institute on the Constitution have your doubts.
One thing I do not have a doubt about is the fact that too many children in this district are not getting the quality education that the taxpayers are funding.

Why don't you explain where I am wrong in my analysis of these numbers?

If you can tear yourself away from the phony issues you seem want to create, why don't you address a real one?

Anybody here want to debate the actual performance at the junior high school last year as opposed to the sanitized versions we found in the Dayton Daily News.

While what the DDN said is true, only 34 kids out of 512 failed to reach the PROFICIENT level on the state math test for 7th graders it failed to inform the reader what PROFICIENT represents.

What they neglected to tell the readers is that PROFICIENT is defined as getting 34%-56% correct on the test.

34%-56% correct, these accounted for 94 children in the 7th grade.

The next level is ACCELERATED, sounds quite impressive. To join the ACCELERATED ranks you need to score between 58% and 70%

58%-70% makes you an ACCELERATED student in the eyes of the state. 100 of our children in the 7th grade were considered ACCELERATED.

To be considered truly ADVANCED, the highest academic category a child could attain, one had to score at least 72%.

72% and above gets a child the full honors of the highest rating the state can bestow, the ADVANCED level.

72% and above equals the top of the academic pyramid in Ohio.

A more honest assessment of the children's level of knowledge reveals that we have:

PASSING 75% or better - 23%

FAILING 74% or lower - 77%

That is not really much to write home about. am I wrong in my assessment?

Using an artificially low scale to judge the effectiveness of our program of studies is intellectually dishonest.

Celebrating this feat when we know the underlying basis for these facts is intellectually dishonest and cheats our children of a true education. An education we are most certainly capable of providing all of our children.

Geez, I don't know Doug - how will the community respond?! Well, one, the signs were picked up b/c they were illegally placed (NOT to mention a lie - get your facts straight!) and two, the community will respond by voting for the ticket of Malone/Stuckey/Anderson - the ticket that has ethics, leadership, trust and honor! yea, let's go back to the OLD way, it was so much better when Baker and crew were threatening us taxpayers for more new money, emotionally blackmailing & bullying parents into voting for a levy by threatening to cut services, raise pay to participate fees, as well as a host of other onerous threats.

Geez....?

Doesn't this sound like more Maney/Malone tunnel vision praise and worship of the union family insiders, while the union school board candidates are ignoring their responsibility to answer the questions of outsiders who, by the way, foot the big bill for the union insiders generous pay increases and great compensation/benefits packages?

We need more than ethics, leadership, trust, and honor that Malone,Stuckey,Anderson possess; We need school board candidates elected who are already "on board" with our current board's new reform minded philosophy of fixing budgets/levy alternatives to ensure a quality 21st century education for all students, while living within the framework of our children's first budget.
Hasn't Mr. Malone already announced publicly to the taxpaying voters that he is not a good "fit" with our school district philosophy....?

In the May 2013 issue of Springboro Life magazine, editor Jill Kelley conducted a two page interview with Ron Malone, who has been a SHS principal for the PAST 13 years. During the interview, the retiring principal relfected on his PAST 41 years as professional educator, stating that the district is going through a lot of internal changes and changes at the state level. Mr. Malone states in the Springboro Life magazine interview:
"I've always felt that the key to a person's effectiveness is how they fit within an organizational philosophy. This changes over time. I'm not sure the fit is as good now as when I came to Springboro in 2000. My strengths and the board's expectations of my position do not match as well as I would like."

People in this community should ask ourselves:
... if Mr. Malone conceded in May 2013, that his strengths in educational expertise of the past 41 years, does not fit with the current board-approved agenda of a quality 21st century classroom education, while living within the framework of our new philosophy of Children's First budgeting...

...why is he working against our Students First best educational interests, by campaigning
for BOE election to gain "control of the board" to re-instate his Adults First status quo philosophy, stating "There needs to be a re-emphasis on the value of the educator?"

Balance can be seen on scales, in sports and on spreadsheets. There are times when balance is easy to see and define. There are times when we have to work to achieve balance. For example, in our own homes we try to find a perfect balance between work and family. Although we can define the ideal, we rarely meet it.

With the Board of Education race in Springboro this fall, voters will look for balance. Some will argue balance means putting opposing sides together on the board. But the picture of balance needs to be bigger than that. Board of Education members are elected to represent the community in the school district.

The board is elected to balance the interests of students, parents, taxpayers, and employees. Many school boards lack balance because they are comprised of people with more allegiance to maintaining a specific establishment than to the greater cause.

In Springboro, balance has been restored. With a new administrative team, the Springboro school district has adopted a mission to “accelerate student achievement and support qualified staff with a balanced budget.” These are not empty words: they summarize actions. Together, we have achieved a balanced budget. We are on the right course, but it has not been easy.

With Educate Springboro, we brought changes that forced many to rethink long-held beliefs. Anytime the status quo changes, there is resistance. Panicked petitions and hysterical headlines have made things “feel” out of balance. So now, there is a slate of three candidates that want to return to the past – which “felt” balanced.

However, today we can see just how far out of balance we actually were under the previous leadership. Some of the imbalances of the past include:
-Capping high school class sizes in the 20s, while other grades who most need teacher attention, had larger class sizes (often up to 30).
-Teaching the majority to meet the proficient standard (proficient is a OAA test score in 8th grade >40), while our district receives a “D” in gifted education and a “C” for our more challenged, lowest 20%.
-Ignoring the changing curriculum and testing standards for students.
-Charging higher pay-to-play and school fees than were necessary.
-Failing to plan for technology in our classrooms and then spending resources on wireless technology that was inadequate and required replacement.
-Ignoring recommendations to improve the rigor of our high school academic programs by failing to promote college credit options for our students.
-Reacting to circumstances and spending more than budgeted instead of planning to invest and keeping up our buildings, grounds and bus fleet.
-Assuming the only solution was higher taxes and hoping for a new levy to pass.

These are symptoms of the status quo controlling a school district that lost its balance.

(cont. p.2 )

If there was any balance at all in the past, it was an eye for an eye. As this community said “no” to five new money levies, district leaders failed to find levy alternatives. The status quo threatened the community with cuts. Thankfully, many of those leaders have left, but some now would like to return to sit on our school board.

This year’s record is easy to defend because it consistently demonstrates investing in Children First. From replacing the District’s aging computers, buses, to implementing new curriculum and raising expectations with new standards, testing – we have progressed!

Why would we give control back to those who slowed this district’s progress? Those who inflated budget forecasts? Those who ignored the capital needs of the District? Most importantly, why would we elect the same people who neglected to put Children First in our schools?

The Children First budget is navigating us away from the repeated failures of the past. Now, working in open, public meetings, asking tough questions, hearing all voices, using performance data and striving to find a balance that supports teachers, our community is achieving the goal to put Children First in every decision.

Balance is about consistent, sustainable, forward-looking leadership. Educate Springboro sees the bigger picture and leads in the direction of balance for our children, schools and community. We’ll continue to be the voice that stands up for parents and the community, examining past practices, and making tough decisions – whether it is providing technology, more services for gifted students, raises for employees, or even a tax rollback – To maintain balance for the benefit of everyone.

The signs were not illegally placed.

The question is a rather salient one:

How will a UNION CONTROLLED school board spend your TAX DOLLARS?

I suppose some folks would rather not have others exposed to such thinking, but what exactly was inaccurate about that sign?

Presiding over 12 years of looting of over $1,000,000 of the booster money while head of the high school and then fighting against necessary reforms to combat this sort of behavior in the future certainly is not many people's way of gaining trust or honor. Maybe in Mr. Malone's tiny part of the world that makes sense, but I doubt it works elsewhere.

Knowingly dumbing down the curriculum of the high school in the face of NO RESEARCH OR DATA that supports that course of action as beneficial to the students is not demonstrating either leadership nor ethics. When will Mr. Malone explain to us how not providing a more challenging educational atmosphere was good for our children and their future?

Mr Weideman,

If the signs were not placed illegally, as Be A Man alleges, where did they go?

I'd check with the twp and city if they took them down. If they did they will give them back and give you the reason as to why.

But if they didn't take them, then maybe an IP address search for Be A Man would be prudent. Then the authorities could inquire how the poster knew before noon today that the signs, plural, were taken down...because they were "illegally placed"

FWIW, the city and twp will only take down signs IF they have a complaint AND if they are placed illegally. Or if they are in the right of way causing a sight problem.

Sounds to me you got someones attention and they took it upon themselves to illegally take down campaign signs.

I am a conservative in Springboro and find the signs offensive. Are you saying unions are bad? Are you saying my police and fire fighters are bad because they belong to the union? No I am not in a union and have never been in one.

I think people need to think before speaking or putting up signs. I will vote for anyone who does not support that rhetoric.

Belonging to a union does not mean that teachers and police and fire fighters are bad. It is bad that our CCFD assistant fire chief (who is a union member) chose to behave "badly" recently on this Topix blog by "stealing" an elected official's identity to post an untrue statement. It is bad that this same CCFD assistant fire chief is also a member of our Springboro Schools safety sub committee (and obviously someone in which our entire community
trusted to never behave badly). I do think it is bad when party loyalty to unionism is so empowering to union members that good judgement is lost, and the people's best interest is not served.

The OEA members are some of the worst people we have ever had to deal with as to radical social behavior. They have the destruction of America in their minds and they are terrible people because their ideology makes them corrosive. They openly use children to execute their maniacal plans for social progressive changes at the expense of society, and this defines their essence. Wars are won by taking away from the other side the will to continue fighting. The OEA directly attacks good citizens with wicked words of war (psychological warfare) hoping to rob them of their will to stand opposed to the union's progressive agenda;
because to the OEA radicals, they ARE at war with taxpayers.
Our schools and community need leaders who will attack out of control labor costs and unnecessary government spending; and protect taxpayers hard earned tax dollars while keeping our
future stable and debt-free for our children and grandchildren.

The signs ask a simple question:

How will a UNION CONTROLLED school board spend your TAX DOLLARS ?

Pray tell what is offensive about that question?

Judging from your inferences I would say bad thoughts immediately crept into your mind, but my sign did not put those prejudices in your subconscious. Those were formed by your own life experiences and learning.

"Read up, review the facts, and be prepared to counter the distortions and lies that are surely headed to your inbox, your mailbox, and even in the little rock filled plastic baggies containing misleading propaganda that will surely be hitting your front lawn in the days ahead. "

Let us ask Mr Bowman, Mr Malone, or Mr. Stuckey how they counter facts gleaned from the Ohio Department of Education regarding our students performance on the Ohio Achievement Assessment tests.

I'd like Mr Bowman, instead of worrying about negatives, to actually read up, review the facts, and give us a couple of objective reasons to vote for his candidates.

I mean what are they running on? What is it that they want to do to objectively better the district and the kids...other than "take back their board"

Last election cycle the cry from the nattering neybobs was Petroni and Rigano had no kids in the system. That they had conflicts of interest among other silly non issues.

This election cycle the same people are supporting 3 men that have no kids in they system and definite agendas with conflicts of interest. Yet Bowman says to review the facts and read up in order to support his candidates. From what I have read is Malone and Stuckey are entrenched in the SEA. Malones wife and daughter are SEA dues paying members. Elect the MSA ticket and we will have 5 men on the BOA and not a one of them with kids in the system. Is that what Mr Bowman really wants?

Please, someone tell me,What are they running on? Hey Mr Bowman, don't tell me why not to vote for someone else, tell me why I should vote for the people you support. Cuz for whatever reason, no else can tell me why I should vote for them...I just hear more reasons not to vote for them. What are the "distortions, lies and propaganda" that you believe youll find coming your way?

Bittner and Vaughn...Kids in the system, no agendas, no conflicts of interest. Working for our kids and their kids.

Mr. Wiedeman,

Thank you so much for what you're doing. There is absolutely nothing inaccurate about the wording you selected for the signage. If you will, place more of this signage in right-of-ways at the entrances of Brookside, and I'll see that it's videomonitored in order to help deter vandalism or theft.
